Minnesota Vikings Re-Sign Swing Tackle Mike Harris

By Lindsey Young

Per Star Tribune beat reporter Matt Vensel, the Vikings have re-signed RFA swing tackle Mike Harris.

Minnesota tendered an offer to Harris on March 10, and the two sides reached a deal Tuesday morning. At the time of the initial offer, Harris said the following:

“It’s a place where I feel like I can grow as a player. [The Vikings have] a great coaching staff, especially (offensive coordinator) Norv Turner. Offensively, it’s just going to get better this year and I just want to be part of it. I’m just happy they have the confidence in me and they believe in me and want me on the team.’’

The tackle proved an asset for Minnesota during the 2014 season; he started five games in the right tackle position after Phil Loadholt was sidelined with a torn pectoral muscle. He’s a flexible option to have on the roster, and he told the Vikings he’s prepared to play where needed. This may be helpful since the team released guard Charlie Johnson.

Harris originally played for San Diego and was claimed off waivers by the Vikings in August. The fact that he formerly played for Turner and has experience with his coaching style has made him a strong role player for Minnesota.

Details of the contract have not been released, but Harris would have made $1.542 million under the RFA tender.

  • I agree, Justin. Harris is a great option to keep on the roster, especially since he can fill in at other positions if necessary. Thanks for reading!
