Vikings Inactives: Cole, Johnson to Start vs. Rams

By Austin Belisle

Today, the Minnesota Vikings will try to stop Todd Gurley without two of their best defensive players; linebacker Eric Kendricks and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd. Both are inactive for what is the Vikings’ most important game of the season, as Minnesota will look to gain ground on the division-leading Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.

In their place, Audie Cole and Tom Johnson will start. Last season, Cole started the Vikings’ Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears and recorded 11 tackles. He’s shown the ability to step up when called on, though the loss of Kendricks will surely hurt the Vikings in blitzing situations. Johnson, meanwhile, has played well in place of Floyd. Below, a look at the rest of the team’s inactives:

The team is fortunate to have Stefon Diggs and Anthony Barr active for today’s game, as both will play critical roles in delivering a win over the Rams. Diggs has been battling a hamstring injury, while Barr is recovering from a sore lower back.

Stay tuned for more coverage from Vikings Territory throughout the day! We’re just 20 minutes away from kickoff!

  • Maybe a list for the Rams is a good idea. No big deal, just a thought. Keep up the great work you guys!

  • Hello?! Very good game...fortunate to come out with a victory. The play call after the Rams missed the FG, what in Shaun freakin' Hill was that? Really Norval? How does that happen? There is no explanation that I could buy. You're kidding me, right...almost lost us the game. And another week another end of half dumbfounder. 40 seconds left, just let it run.
I did like the call to take the wind in OT, my son didn't...he about came unglued with that. Especially combined with of the play after the missed FG. He almost walked out the door. I lured him back with old man common sense and wisdom...Nobody had done anything against that wind all day! We get one stop and a FG wins it. We did and that's ballgame! Hope Teddy is ok!

    • Agree with you and zim totally carter, As soon as I saw the play action I scared my guests by yelling so loud "what the f are you doing?"! Just a dumb play call, the last series should have been adrian left, adrian right, adrian up the middle, in any order or frequency. The only needed to run 5 five plays to be able to burn the clock, rams stop it after the first three, then the rams are done. Just a first down.. nope 2nd and 21. They were fortunate that zuerlein missed, they were fortunate that fisher really did make a bone head call to go for two so early in the game when the 2 was not yet relevant to the game score.

    • also agree with taking the wind rather than the ball. I was the only one in my living room that thought it was the best the to do.

      • The wind really dictated the game.
        Yeah...I said dictate.
Speaking about Gregggggg. I hate that guy. But I'm in the minority, I don't think old boy that hit him meant to knock him out. But I could be wrong...either way, I don't care for Gregggggg.
