Lindsey Young Represents Vikings Territory on Kare11’s Vikings Extra

By Lindsey Young

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to represent Vikings Territory on Kare 11’s Vikings Extra show. I received a message from sports producer Dan Edwards, and I jumped at the opportunity to make my television debut. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. The entire sports crew at Kare 11 was fantastic—down-to-earth, welcoming, and just plain fun.

Every week, Vikings Extra features a writer/media person, a football fan, and a Minnesota athlete (former or current). Last night’s panel featured myself as the writer, Apple Valley football coach David Paradeise, and former San Antonio Spur and Minnesota native Rich Melzer. Eric Perkins facilitated the panel discussion; the three main topics covered during the TV portion were the following: (1) what will the second half of the Vikings season look like? (2) the AP situation, and (3) who is your biggest disappointment on the Vikings roster thus far?

A six-minute edited segment played on Kare 11 following the Sunday Night Football game, and the entire piece is online. Watch below and comment!

  • I thought you did a great job when watching it last night. Although, how you kept yourself from smacking the guy next to you when he said he didn't want AD back I'll never know. :)

  • Great job, Lindsey! I have to admit, although I salivate at the idea of AP helping Teddy, the HS coach's take on not wanting him back strikes a chord, too. If I were teaching kids, I wouldn't want AP as a role model. Easy to see why it's a difficult decision for the powers that be.

  • Is there Another link(YouTube?) to see the video, same with Arif's interview. These links aren't playable on my phone.

  • I frankly don't get the idea that people beyond say, 10 years old, 'look up' to ball players as some kid of paragon.
Maybe it was because of, say, the Vietnam war. I was like 10 or 11 and I was against it, like my older brothers and sisters, and I find out that coaches and some players I respected were all 'gung-ho' about it. Bud Grant, Tom Landry, Don Shula, George Allen -- all of them big Nixon Men too.

Well that put an end to treating great coaches or players as exemplars for anything else. wheras Gen McCarthy was a hero to me.

    • BTW it also works the other way of course. Suppose you were in favor of the war, but that you also admired the outspoken opponents Jim Brown, or Mohammed Ali, or Bill Walton -- you'd again be disappointed, and maybe circumspect about admiration of sports greats spilling over into other areas of life.

  • Oh that's gold! Sorry I didn't get it when I read the initial comment, but it's the first time I've seen this show :)

    • Come to think of it, it looks like he just got up for THIS show, too. Dude must party hearty.

  • Two words: dazzling, intelligent

That best describes your television debut! Keep up the strong work!

    One question I have is:
How come Ray Lewis was allowed to return to his team after the court of public opinion pretty much thinks he had a hand in a MURDER? He's looked at as an untouchable pastor who can do nothing wrong. Based on the precedent set by that case, AD should be allowed to return to Vikings and show he can overcome a mistake.
