Purple Rumor Mill: Bradbury’s Availablity, Playoff Uniforms, Bynum Weird All-Pro Consideration

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

VikingsTerritory’s Purple Rumor Mill is a two-day chronicle each week. All the week’s rumors are lassoed and plopped in two spots — articles on Saturday and Sunday — for review. Today is the January 14th edition.

Remember — rumors are rumors. What you read on weekends in these pieces is what the world is talking about pertaining to the Vikings, not necessarily items that will come to fruition.

Purple Rumor Mill: Bradbury’s Availablity, Playoff Uniforms, Bynum Weird All-Pro Consideration

Rumor: After missing five weeks, Garrett Bradbury will play Sunday in the playoffs.

Well, after missing over a month, Bradbury, the team’s starting center, is a full-go for Sunday against New York. Bradbury has come a long way, winning over fans in 2022 after three seasons of meh play from 2019 to 2021.

But Bradbury has revitalized his career with Kevin O’Connell in charge, becoming an adept pass blocker and run supporter. He was always an upper-echelon run-blocking center, but the pass protection was often dreadful.

If this changes between now and Sunday afternoon, Chris Reed will be on deck to start.

Rumor: The Vikings will wear special playoff uniforms against the Giants this weekend.

The Vikings are wearing purple on purple this weekend. It’s the same arrangement they had for the playoff game against the Saints in 2019 when Kirk Cousins and Kyle Rudolph walked off Drew Brees’ pals.

When the Vikings and Giants last met — three weeks ago — Minnesota fired up their “whiteout” uniforms, so this time, they’re going all purple.

Fans don’t necessarily have to wear all purple as was the request for the whiteout game. But it’s purple pants for the Vikings on Sunday.

Rumor: Somehow, Camryn Bynum received fringe All-Pro attention from voters.

Bynum received one 2nd-Team All-Pro vote, and no one really knows why.

The second-year safety is a decent football player but shouldn’t be earning All-Pro attention.

But hey, all the power to him. Bynum has recorded a 58.2 Pro Football Focus grade in 2022. That ranks 68th among 89 qualifying safeties. We don’t understand the All-Pro vote, but we won’t complain.
