The National Folks Picking the Dolphins over Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings (4-1) are 3.5-point favorites three days before a showdown with the Miami Dolphins (3-2) in Week 6.
The Dolphins lost to the upstart New York Jets, 40-17, in Week 5 after losing QB1 Tua Tagovailoa and QB2 Teddy Bridgewater in back-to-back games. The Vikings conquered the Chicago Bears 29-22 in a wacky game at U.S. Bank Stadium. Minnesota hopped out to an 18-point lead, later trailed by one point, and won by seven.
According to NFLPickWatch, a website that logs NFL experts’ weekly picks, about 82% of folks believe Minnesota will take down Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Week 6. The Vikings have a 5-8 (.384) all-time record against the Dolphins.
A handful of personalities forecast a Dolphins win over the Vikings, though, even as the Dolphins trot out a rookie passer. As of Thursday, these individuals predict Miami sending the Vikings to a 4-2 record:
- Bill Bender of Sporting News
- Mike Clay of ESPN
- Jared Dubin of CBS Sports
- Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk
- John Healy of Audacy
- Odds Shark
- Colleen Wolfe of NFL Network
Mike Florio from PFT said about the Dolphins-Vikings matchup, “The Vikings keep doing just enough to win, thanks to plenty of good luck. Their luck runs out this week.”
Maurice Moton from Bleacher Report noted about his Vikings-over-Dolphins prediction, “As the rookie (Skylar Thompson) goes through a learning experience, quarterback Kirk Cousins will go up and down the field on Miami’s 28th-ranked pass defense, connecting with wideouts Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen for big plays to blow this game wide open.”
The Vikings haven’t won a football game in Miami for 46 years. They’ve lost four straight contests on the road versus the Dolphins, last winning in 1976.
As mentioned by Moton, 7th-Round rookie Skylar Thompson gets the nod at QB1 as Tagovailoa and Bridgewater remain in the NFL’s concussion protocol. The Vikings are 8-8-2 (.500) throughout franchise history against quarterbacks making their first career start.
If the Vikings are triumphant, they’ll be 5-1 in a season for the first time since 2016.
