Purple Rumor Mill: Purple-on-Purple Unis, Winston Out, Benching a Starter

VikingsTerritory’s Purple Rumor Mill is a two-day chronicle each week. All the week’s rumors are lassoed and plopped in two spots — articles on Saturday and Sunday — for review. Today is the October 2nd edition.

Remember — rumors are rumors. What you read on weekends in these pieces is what the world is talking about pertaining to the Vikings, not necessarily items that will come to fruition.

Rumor: The Vikings will wear all purple in London.

Chuck Cook -USA TODAY Sports.

This is correct. The Vikings wear the special purple pants in Week 4.

They break these out on special occasions — usually when they play the Saints — and will do so again across the pond. The Vikings last wore the purple-on-purple outfits on Christmas day of 2020, when New Orleans delivered a 52-33 beatdown.

Rumor: Jameis Winston is out, and Andy Dalton is in.

Winston has not fully recovered from his back injury, leading him to Doubtful status on Friday’s injury report. Eventually on Saturday, New Orleans ruled Winston out for Week 4.

Insert Dalton, who’s faced the Vikings four times in his career with three different teams – the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears. Dalton’s teams are 2-2 against the Vikings.

Rumor: The Vikings could bench Chandon Sullivan soon.

Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports.

This is not imminent and was only a “suggestion” from Bleacher Report.

BR‘s Alex Ballentine explained in an article about “one player every team should bench” that Sullivan is struggling as the Vikings slot corner and could be consequently benched.

While that’s possible, the entire Vikings defensive unit is dealing with “bend don’t break” blues, and it’s not just a Sullivan ordeal. Minnesota would pivot to rookie Akayleb Evans if the Sullivan benching chatter materializes, but for now, it’s just some guy’s theory.
