VikingsTerritory’s Purple Rumor Mill is a two-day chronicle each week. All the week’s rumors are lassoed and plopped in two spots — articles on Saturday and Sunday — for review. Today is the October 1st edition.

Remember — rumors are rumors. What you read on weekends in these pieces is what the world is talking about pertaining to the Vikings, not necessarily items that will come to fruition.

Rumor: Lewis Cine is upset about the lack of playing time.

This one is interpretive.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said before Week 3 that he expected Lewis Cine to make his NFL debut versus the Detroit Lions.

Cine did not play at all on defense, and he tweeted this after the game.

It’s up to you to decide if this tweet [or picture] conveys discontent, sadness, anger, determination, or none of the above. Cine thought he was going to play on defense, he’s a 1st-Rounder, he didn’t play, and this was his first communication to the world after the game.

Cine did play 15 special teams snaps, though.

Rumor: Freshly-signed TE Jacob Hollister will eventually play a role in the Vikings offense.

For now, Hollister lives on the Vikings practice squad. If everything remains the same on the Vikings depth chart — as in no injuries — he’ll probably just stay there indefinitely.

However, Hollister has ample NFL experience, playing 57 games in five years with the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and Jacksonville Jaguars. His resume suggests more than a practice-squad player.

Still, the Vikings employ Irv Smith, Johnny Mundt, and Ben Ellefson on the active roster. They seem to like them all.

So, it’s a wait-and-see for Hollister.

Rumor: The Saints will be without QB1 Jameis Winston on Sunday.

Winston is officially doubtful versus the Vikings in London, meaning he almost certainly will not play.

For some Vikings fans, this inspires dread, as the franchise has a curious, yikes relationship against backup quarterbacks. Matt Moore, Cooper Rush, and Andy Dalton have led their respective teams to wins over the years against Minnesota.

And, don’t look now, but that same Andy Dalton will play versus the Vikings on Sunday.
