Ex-Vikings OT Released by Commanders

Rashod Hill, who spent six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, will look for a new place of NFL employment after the Washington Commanders cut ties on Tuesday.
Hill signed with Washington in July.
The Vikings used Hill as a backup tackle for most of his tenure in Minnesota, but the 30-year-old did start 22 games from 2016 to 2021.
Hill didn’t experience much playing time in his rookie season. However, from his sophomore campaign through the end of the 2021 season, Hill played in 90% of all Vikings games. All told, he appeared in 74 games for Minnesota.
New Vikings executive Kwesi Adofo-Mensah welcomed various new offensive linemen this offseason, including Jesse Davis, Chris Reed, plus rookies Ed Ingram and Vederian Lowe. Accordingly, Hill was the odd man out, as a priority was not set on re-signing Hill for a seventh season.
In Washington, Hill was competing with Sam Cosmi, Charles Leno Jr., Cornelius Lucas, Saahdiq Charles, Aaron Monteiro, and Alex Akingbulu for a roster spot. But Hill didn’t make the cut and now hits free agency.
A durable and reliable reservist commodity, Hill has the Pro Football Focus resume to land on an NFL roster, especially if 2021 can be considered an outlier:
- 2016 = 68.2
- 2017 = 62.0
- 2018 = 58.5
- 2019 = 61.0
- 2020 = 72.4
- 2021 = 42.7
Washington still has two former Vikings on its active roster — Willie Beavers (OG) and Taylor Heinicke (QB).
