The Vikings recovered after a 3rd Quarter nap in Week 13, toppling the New York Jets 27-22 in yet another rollercoaster game. Against New York, the Vikings defense was formidable in the first half, shaky in Quarters 3 and 4, but put a bow on the contest to hit a 10-2 record.

Minnesota has around 16:1 odds of winning the Super Bowl in 2022. Last week, those odds were about the same, so the win over New York didn’t move the needle much.

Per EPA/Play, the Vikings own the NFL’s 18th-best offense and 15th-best defense after Week 13. Those certainly aren’t the metrics a Super Bowl-contending team produces, but the Vikings have five weeks to improve.

These are the Vikings weekly power rankings heading into Week 14.

The national average of these totals is 6.0. The world believes the Vikings are about the NFL’s sixth-best team. Last week, Minnesota was around seventh.

Dan Hanzus from NFL.com wrote about the Vikings win over the Jets, “You can’t argue with the Vikings’ record, but Kirk Cousins will need to play better if Minnesota is to be taken seriously as a Super Bowl contender. The veteran missed some layups against the Jets and continues to perform at levels below his career norms. Does that mean a hot streak is coming for one of the NFL’s most consistent producers? We wouldn’t bet against it.”

Vinnie Iyer from Sporting News mentioned, “The Vikings continue to be disrespected because they do have defensive issues with an inconsistent yet sometimes explosive offense. It’s true they tend to win a lot of close games, home or away, including the Jets’ contest, but that’s a testament to their tougher and more confident mental makeup under rookie coach Kevin O’Connell.”

The Vikings are 1.5-point underdogs to beat the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Week 14. The Lions still have a glimmer of playoff hope, but it is faint. They crushed the Jacksonville Jaguars at home 40-14 last weekend.
