Eyes on Vikings as Madden 23 Ratings Reveal Week Nears

The yearly tradition of EA Sports launching the heralded Madden offering is upon us, and we’re just over a month away from the release date. Featuring John Madden himself on the cover this season, the game is set to launch on August 19. We won’t have to wait that long for content, however, as ratings reveal week is coming on July 18. A handful of Minnesota Vikings should fare well.

One way that EA Sports promotes publicity for each version of Madden is by slow-rolling player ratings through reveals by position and overall attributes. The “99 Club” will again showcase the handful of players deemed the best in the league. It would be fair to wonder whether Vikings Justin Jefferson makes it as the best wide receiver in the NFL.

As of now, the only player to be revealed is San Francisco 49ers lineman Trent Williams, who was announced as the first member of the 99 Club. Williams becomes the first offensive lineman to ever be rated 99 overall in the Madden franchise.

Minnesota could see movement from Kirk Cousins, who finished Madden 22 at 81 overall. That put him right below Matt Ryan and right ahead of new Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield. Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was the lone player at the position to achieve a 99 rating last year, with Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp checking in at 98. Justin Jefferson finished the season ranked 10th at 90 overall.

Vikings Harrison Smith is regularly very highly rated in Madden and was a 90 overall in Madden 22. That had him tied for fourth in the game behind only the Cardinals Tyrann Mathieu and Budda Baker, as well as the Chargers Derwin James. Running back Dalvin Cook could see a bigger boost to his rating as the year goes on should he stay healthy and be featured prominently in Kevin O’Connell’s offensive gameplan. At 95 overall, he was rated as the game’s 4th best running back behind Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey, and Nick Chubb.

It’s always exciting to see where the rookies check in as well. How high will first round pick Lewis Cine be rated? Ed Ingram and Andrew Booth Jr. we’re seen somewhat as steals of the draft and should be usable pieces in franchise mode as well.

Check back in during rating reveals week to stay up to date on all things Vikings in Madden 23.
