All the Vikings News: March 31
The following is free-agency news applicable to the Minnesota Vikings on March 31, 2021 — via tweet.
LSU Pro Day. The Vikings grabbed a prolific LSUer last year.

The Vikings know all about freaks.
LSU WR Ja'Marr Chase just did a 41-inch vertical jump at his Pro Day. He then followed that up with a ridiculous 11-foot broad jump. Certified freak.

A recap of yesterday’s brutality.

Keep an eye on Kellen Mond and Minnesota.
Kellen Mond could have made a nice impression on he Vikings last year when they were evaluating eventual highly paid UDFA WR Quartney Davis.

More freak stuff from today’s Pro Day festivities.
Florida TE Kyle Pitts is freakishly built.

Close-to-unprecedented stuff.

Speed kills.
LSU WR Ja'Marr Chase ran a 4.38u 40 yard dash at his pro day. He’s putting on a show.

Dalvins making name history.
Wild, but true:
There have only been 2 players in NFL history named Dalvin.

That would be today if Ali is correct.
Prediction: #vikings sign Forrest Lamp tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/ClU1VbWFur

Wolfson name-drops an unsung draft prospect.
Will be curious to see how Notre Dame edge rusher Daelin Hayes looks today. Checks the character boxes the #Vikings love. He has already knocked out a Zoom interview with the Purple. pic.twitter.com/ybqS3ps0ob
— Darren Wolfson (@DWolfsonKSTP) March 31, 2021
The pitchforks are out for offensive line.
At this point, the Vikings need to find a way to sign Forrest Lamp. He is better than Dozier in every aspect and still has potential to grow. Without another guard signing we are forcing our hand in the draft.
— Skol.News (@SKOLdotNEWS) March 31, 2021
Discontent from Sosa.
Bears sign Dalton, Packers are in salary cap trouble with their SB window closing.. the Lions are well the Lions.. the NFC North is there for the taking and what do the Vikings do? Sign Rashod Hill and Dakota Dozier to protect the blind side #Vikings
— Rick Sosa (@sosarick) March 31, 2021
Offensive line spitballing.
Worse case scenario for the Minnesota Vikings, Sewell, Slater, and AVT are all selected before #14. This could happen.
— JJDEMARAY (@JJDEMARAY) March 31, 2021
Krauser is also unimpressed by the Vikings offensive line.
But somehow Vikings fans would've been much happier if they'd signed Austin Blythe (20th worst pass blocking grade, and 12th worst in 2019 when he played guard) or Forrest Lamp (35th worst pass blocking grade, and 2nd worst run blocking grade).
— Krauser (@Krauserrific) March 31, 2021
Now PFF Vikings chimes in on Hayes.
Daelin Hayes in 2020:
– 79.3 overall grade
– 81.0 run defense
– 77.9 pass rush gradeHis NFL player comparison? Ifeadi Odenigbo ? https://t.co/5n0jl0pXhh
— PFF MIN Vikings (@PFF_Vikings) March 31, 2021
Vet minimum. You can probably stop flipping out.
Dakota Dozier’s deal with the #Vikings is for the veteran minimum ($1.075 million), with no signing bonus and no guaranteed money.

Star Tribune speaks on the Vikings WR coach.
The first NFL home stadium that Vikings receivers coach Keenan McCardell played in had what he called "The Penthouse," but the amenities weren't quite up to U.S. Bank Stadium standards: https://t.co/VEYuhUUVUq

An underwhelming theme.
#Vikings guards with Kirk Cousins at QB:
2018:
• LG Tom Compton
• RG Mike Remmers2019:
• LG Pat Elflein
• RG Josh Kline2020:
• LG Dakota Dozier
• RG Ezra Cleveland2021: ?

The Packers will have some hefty decisions at this time next year.
Lots of Packers get a LOT more expensive in 2022 than 2021. Cap hits in '21 –> '22:
Z.Smith 14.6 –> 28.1
P.Smith 8.8 –> 19.8
D.Bakhtiari 11.0 –> 22.8
K.Clark 7 –> 20.7
A.Jones 4.8 –> 9And Alexander & Adams deals both end after 2021.
— Computer Cowboy (@benbbaldwin) March 31, 2021
2021 shaping up to be different than 2020.
The NFL just sent a memo to clubs, saying they should prepare to conduct meetings virtually when offseason programs begin April 19, but don’t anticipate another all-virtual workout program like 2020, per sources.
Translation: Get ready to see players on the field this spring.

Other teams were interested in Dozier.
This is the minimum for Dozier, no signing bonus. Other teams were interested, but nobody would go above the minimum. He really likes it here, playing for Dennison, so choice to return was pretty easy, it seems. #Vikings https://t.co/meWnidBA3c
— Darren Wolfson (@DWolfsonKSTP) March 31, 2021
O’Neill, Bradbury, and Cleveland are trending as staples.
I don't think we project a depth chart with anyone not named Bradbury, Cleveland or O'Neill until after we see what this team does during the draft. https://t.co/JYhX1OQCde
— Courtney Cronin (@CourtneyRCronin) March 31, 2021
Interesting.
"Our offense has been pretty darn good… we have some holes to fill, there's still a lot of players out there right now. When we looked at the defense after the season it was pretty barren"
— Matthew Coller (@MatthewColler) March 31, 2021
Optimistic take.
Mike Zimmer on how the Vikings will replace Riley Reiff: "We got Rashod Hill back, (Oli) Udoh back, (Brian) O'Neill back, we’ve got (Ezra) Cleveland. … All those guys are good players."
— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) March 31, 2021
Defense a priority — confirmed.
#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer on defensive signees in free agency: "We knew that we had a quite a few areas that we needed to fulfill.''
— Chris Tomasson (@christomasson) March 31, 2021
As prognosticated by VikingsTerritory.
#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said the defense will look completely different than last year due to the injured players coming back and the signees and "I'm excited about the whole crew.''
— Chris Tomasson (@christomasson) March 31, 2021
In the dumps, indeed.
Mike Zimmer said he was "down in the dumps" at times when looking at his depth chart at the end of the season. He said the Vikings' additions in free agency have "rejuvenated" him.
— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) March 31, 2021
Cleveland is the RG for now.
Mike Zimmer when asked what position Ezra Cleveland will play: "Right now, he’s right guard. But all those things can change depending on what else happens in free agency and what happens in the draft."
— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) March 31, 2021
Zimmer’s perception of his roster? BPA in draft.
Mike Zimmer said the Vikings' moves in free agency have set them up to take the best player available in the draft, not get pigeonholed into one spot, i.e. offensive line.
— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) March 31, 2021
Filling roster need has sometimes worked not-well for the Vikings.
For what it's worth, some of their biggest first-round misses have been because of that. I.e. Troy Williamson, Erasmus James, Christian Ponder (pre-Zimmer), Laquon Treadwell during Zimmer era. https://t.co/dKKegw3Aet
— Kevin Brown (@KevinBrownNFL) March 31, 2021
More perspective from Brown.
One thing the Vikings aren't doing to address their OL at this point is overpay for mediocrity. They "reached" to do that when they signed Remmers, Kline, Boone, Charlie Johnson and even to some degree Reiff. All didn't see the life of their contracts and were cap casualties.
