Report: Vikings and Dalvin Cook to discuss extension this offseason

Dalvin Cook could get paid this offseason. At least that’s the rumor going around.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Vikings are expected to discuss a long-term contract extension with the standout running back.

“[Cook] has one more year on his contract… My understanding is his agent and the Vikings are going to get together this offseason and see if they can change that. No guarantees,” said Rapoport. “But my understanding is they want to work on a long-term extension to keep him in a Vikings uniform for years to come. We’ve seen the road map… 6 years, $90 million for Ezekiel Elliott. This could end up being the biggest Vikings deal since Adrian Peterson‘s $100 million deal in 2011.”
Cook, 25, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He’s due to make $1.3 million in base salary in 2020.
Having played in 15 games throughout the first two seasons of his career due to injuries, Cook enjoyed a breakout season in 2019. In 14 starts he rushed for 1,135 yards with 13 touchdowns and added 53 catches for 519 yards. Along with making his first PFWA All-NFC team, Cook also earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl.
A second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Cook became the Vikings’ first 1,000-yard rusher since Adrian Peterson in 2015.
