According to a source, NFL owners ratified changes to the structure of the practice squad. Mark Maske of the Washington Post tweeted that the owners will increase the size of the practice squad from 10 players to 16. In addition, four players can be protected from other teams on a weekly basis.

This news is especially relevant for the Minnesota Vikings. After signing all 15 of their rookie draft class, the Vikings will have to find roster spots or practice squad places for players. The Vikings also signed 12 undrafted free agents this offseason.

This news comes on the heels of the NFLPA and owners agreeing to cancel the remaining preseason games. In addition, each team will only field 80 players for training camp, as opposed to the regular 90 to help comply with social distancing due to the COVID pandemic.

It’s unclear at this time whether these changes will be maintained after the 2020 NFL season.
