DE Griffen reportedly exploring FA options/Browns May Trade for S Harris

The first major move the Minnesota Vikings made this off-season was to allow defensive end Everson Griffen to opt-out of his contract. The Vikings hoped publicly that Griffen would then resign at a lower rate when free agency begins today.

That apparently isn’t the case, though, as Griffen is reportedly going explore free agency and the options it brings, financially and otherwise.

It would make sense that the 32-year-old Griffen, who has spent his entire career in Minnesota, would want to explore all his options as he already took a pay cut for the team recently and also considering a lot of his friends and (now former) teammates are going to be signing elsewhere.

Griffen bounced back in 2019 after he suffered a mental health breakdown in 2018. He showed that he had plenty left in the tank and he may either be looking for one final big payout or a chance to win a championship, or both.

Some think he may end up in Seattle, as apparently there’s interest from the Seahawks.

Speaking of soon to be officially ex-Vikings in 2020, the recently franchise tagged safety Anthony Harris reportedly will soon be leaving the team as well.

Word on the street that is the internet reports that the Cleveland Browns are interested in trading for Harris. Yesterday we reported that the Vikings  were looking for a mid-to-late draft pick for Harris, but considering the fact that he’d most likely garner a third round compensatory draft pick in 2021 had the Vikings simply let him walk (although based on all the players they’ve lost and the limited amount of compensatory picks/limit of four per team, perhaps they’re at their limit in that regard) means that the team shouldn’t let him go for anything under a third rounder.

That reportedly seems to be the case, as the Browns are willing to send a second or third pick for Harris, which’d give the Vikings an enviable amount of draft capital in 2020 and 2021.
