The Minnesota Vikings on Friday activated linebacker Kentrell Brothers to the 53-man roster. In a corresponding roster move the team waived offensive lineman Bryan Witzmann.

Brothers, 25, served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performing enhancing drugs. The Vikings had a roster exemption on Brothers which allowed him to practice this week.

The special teams standout was docked $148,235 (the cost of four game checks) for missing the first quarter of the season. Brothers is in the third year of his four-year rookie contract.

The Vikings have struggled on special teams without their 2016 fifth-round pick. Brothers is likely not the end-all for the unit’s struggles, but he’s a valuable asset with veteran experience that could give the punt and kick coverage teams a boost. He has 25 total tackles in 28 career games.
