Week 16 Power Rankings

  1. New Orleans Saints: Considering the Saints were on the road against a team playing to keep their season alive, and they still won the game, I’m keeping them at number 1. Also, they have proven how explosive their offense is, yet they can also win games with their defense. Impressive.
  2. Chicago Bears: The Bears clinched the NFC North, but I have concerns about the offense as of late. The defense is ridiculous though.
  3. L.A. Chargers: The Chargers could find themselves as the number 1 seed in the AFC after this next week of football, and they are playing like the best team in football.
  4. Houston Texans: The Texans do find themselves as the number 2 seed this week, and if they win out, they will get a first round bye.
  5. Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs haven’t played very well against elite opponents, which makes me worry about their ability t win a playoff game.
  6. L.A. Rams: The Rams don’t have a defense and the offense is slowing down, a lot.
  7. Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers will still lose to New England in the playoffs, don’t kid yourself.
  8. New England Patriots: The Patriots might have to win a road playoff game or two, and that could result in a different representative from the AFC in the Super Bowl.
  9. Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens have found success on the ground since Lamar Jackson took over, but I’m not sure I trust them to win a potential shootout against high powered offenses such as the Chargers.
  10. Indianapolis Colts: The Colts have a great defense and a great quarterback, but if Mack gets the ground game going, they could be a wild card team that makes noise.
  11. Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys got embarrassed on the road, but they missed multiple opportunities to score touchdowns or make field goals in this game.
  12. Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks should still make the playoffs, but maybe a team can leap frog them for the 5-seed. The 5-seed should get to play the winner of the NFC East, then the Rams, instead of the Bears and the Saints.
  13. Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings new offensive coordinator had a great first showing as his team put up 41 points, but is the offense he has implemented sustainable? Time will tell.
  14. Cleveland Browns: The Browns are still in playoff contention with only two games left. That says so much about the turnaround this team made.
  15. Tennessee Titans: The Titans seem to be hitting their stride now that they decided to utilize Derrick Henry.
  16. Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles making a playoff run with Foles again seems funny, but in reality, it would just awaken the obnoxious fan base.
  17. Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins defense is sub-par and the offense needs to establish the run game, and when you disrupt the run game, the offense falls apart.
  18. Denver Broncos: The Broncos season is over, but they dealt with injuries and growing pains with Case Keenum. It isn’t easy to switch teams and learn new systems, so cut the guy some slack.
  19. Carolina Panthers: The Panthers were being picked as a Super Bowl team earlier this season, and now they most likely will miss the playoffs.
  20. Green Bay Packers: It must be super awkward to work in Green Bay today, because half of the staff is being held hostage in the “Rodgers is the GOAT” camp, while the other half escaped into the “Rodgers is trash” camp. A team divided cannot stand.
  21. Detroit Lions: The Lions aren’t a great team, but let their new coach have a year before everyone decided he’s terrible.
  22. Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons are a team with a lot of injuries, but when healthy they still don’t have a good defense and their quarterback can’t score touchdowns.
  23. Washington Redskins: The Redskins winning says more about how bad Jacksonville is.
  24. Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals winning says more about how bad the Raiders are, but Joe Mixon is a really good player.
  25. Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen is showing flashes of brilliance and talent and it would make me nervous as a Jets or Dolphins fan.
  26. San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers may have just made the Vikings a serious contender with playoff seedings (Vikings could play the Cowboys, Rams, and Bears in playoffs and avoid the Saints in New Orleans.)
  27. Oakland Raiders: The Raiders need to use all those draft picks to establish a young core of studs, or Gruden might be proven a dummy.
  28. New York Giants: The Giants are reportedly sticking with Eli after this year, and that is exactly what I told them NOT to do.
  29. Arizona Cardinals: This team is in a rebuild and they have an average quarterback to build around. They have their work cut out.
  30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buccaneers are a team that has a quarterback that needs a lot of help in order to win, and the Bucs don’t have the supporting cast to help him.
  31. New York Jets: The Jets might be on the cusp of a really good season, they just need some weapons for their young quarterback and a new coach.
  32. Jacksonville Jaguars: Can you believe the Jags were a game away from the Super Bowl last season?
