According to Vikings.com, the “Minneapolis Miracle” has been nominated for two ESPY Awards.

The game-winning, 61-yard touchdown pass from Case Keenum to Stefon Diggs in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game against New Orleans has been recognized in the Best Moment and Best Play categories.

Minnesota’s walk-off win has strong opposition in the Best Moment category:

  • Notre Dame’s victory over Mississippi State in the NCAA Women’s Basketball championship thanks to consecutive game-winning shots fromĀ Arike Ogunbowale.
  • NHL’s expansion franchise, the Las Vegas Golden Knights, defeat the Winnipeg Jets in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
  • No. 16 University of Maryland-Baltimore County upsets No. 1 Virginia for the first victory ever by a 16-seed in the history NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

For the Best Play award, the ESPYs are using a bracket style voting format to decide the winner among 16 different plays. The Minneapolis Miracle is the No. 2 seed in the first round going up against the No. 15 seed, which is Las Vegas Golden Knights’ William Karlsson’s through-the-legs goal.

Minnesota’s history is overflowing with heartbreaking games and moments (and that doesn’t just pertain to the Vikings). Even it was followed by a 38-7 wipe the next week, the Minneapolis Miracle brought hope to a fan base that desperately needed it.

Side note: Joe Buck’s call was pretty darn good.
