Vikings Rookies: Six Left Unsigned

According to Vikings.com, the Minnesota Vikings signed three more draft picks today. The team locked up fourth-round picks DT Jaleel Johnson and LB Ben Gedeon, as well as fifth-round pick OG Danny Isidora. The Vikings have now signed five draft picks. There are still six draftees that remain unsigned.

  • Jaleel Johnson: Johnson is an interior pass rusher that improved every year at Iowa. The defensive tackle projects best as a 3-technique, according to PFF. Thus, Johnson will take part in the efforts to replace Shariff Floyd, who is out indefinitely with a nerve issue in his quad.
  • Ben Gedeon: The linebacker out of Michigan is essentially a replacement for Audie Cole. Gedeon is a run-stopper. He’s a two-down linebacker that’s a huge liability in pass coverage, according to PFF. Gedeon projects as a middle linebacker. Like his days as a Wolverine, he should see plenty of playing time on special teams as a Viking.
  • Danny Isidora: The former Miami guard was a top-performer among offensive lineman at the NFL combine (5.03 40-yard dash, 26 bench press reps, 29 inch vertical). Isidora started 39 consecutive games as a Hurricane. At right guard, he didn’t allow any pressures in 9 of his 13 starts his senior season according to PFF’s scouting profile. As a Viking, he will compete for a roster spot (at guard) against the likes of Zac Kerin, Willie Beavers, Austin Shepherd, Freddie Tagaloa, and Reid Fragel. Effective in both pass and run blocking, he has a solid chance of making the team.

The team signed fifth-round pick WR Rodney Adams out of South Florida and seventh-round pick DE Ifeadi Odenigbo yesterday.

Five of the 11 draft picks have now signed their rookie contracts. The signings come after the NFLPA told the Vikings rookies not to sign their contracts because of conflicting language that the players union feels violates the CBA.
