Purple FTW! Podcast – Episode 232 – NFC NORTH CHAMPS: Vikings-Packers Recap

The Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings are your NFC North Champions after defeating the hated Green Bay Packers 20-13 Sunday Night at Lambeau Field. Everson Griffen and the Vikings defense kept Aaron Rodgers and Eddie “Slim” Lacy in check to bring home the Purple’s first division title since 2009. The Vikes square off against the Seattle Seahawks (revenge game, son) in the Wild Card Round at noon Sunday at The Bank. But before we look ahead, let’s look back at the Vikings shaking off the “You can’t beat Green Bay/You can’t win big games in prime time” narratives.

Other “This is Our Damn Division” Talking Points Include
• The Idea of Losing Intentionally Was Moronic

  1. OK ,enough already. Seahawks the hottest team in football? Is it a typo on my sports app that they lost to the Rams last week? at home? Yeah, great game vs. the Cardinals who literally had nothing to play for unless you really thought the Bucs would beat the Panthers. Let’s stop crowning this Seahawk team as unbeatable. Yeah, we bottomed out when we played them four weeks ago without three of our best defensive players. I think we have a right to claim some “hotness” right now with our three game winning streak, including two routs at home and a road win at Lambeau. Do not give this game to the Seahawks, gang. They are not unbeatable – just ask the Rams, who we DID beat at home.

    1. Go get ’em Coach. Now is not the time for true Viking fans to pick against the Vikings!

  2. I loved the Theilen end around. I thought that was a great play. He was tearing it up before he got hurt which was so sad to see.

I was upset by the lack of passing too. A first down would have saved us some drama. But looking back it does limit the film on Teddy and any plays they want to keep in the book. You’ve got the NFL rushing champion and your defense is balling, but I was looking for Teddys redemption from that left handed error which frustratingly never came. The fact they really limited the play calling is really a testament to their confidence in our defense. I’m sure Teddy was eager to throw again too. I really appreciate Teddys demeanour, He seems really selfless. I’m not sure how I qualify that, but he just seems like the ultimate team guy. I truly believe that he is the one and will lead us to a super bowl. It may or may not be this year, but I believe. He is the one.

I wonder what Trae Waynes will be in a year, and what pieces we might add this off season. Actually it’s too early to wonder that with playoffs upon us! But it should be a scary thought for teams around this division.

I love this draw. Smith and Barr back is huge, and knock on wood LJ too. The rest of the team coming in with a chip on their shoulder. I think we have a great match up vs. Seattle.

  3. Andy love your podcast. You are true fan and it comes through. Missed Arif, always a great add with his great command of NFL personnel and statistical mindset.

Vikes D & SP Teams are playoff ready. Vike Offense is not playoff caliber. TB is Ponder 2015 crowd is a Joke. TB apologists not conceding that TB and Oline play are equal culprits for poor Vikes offense are a little disappointing. TB’s limited pass tree competency is obvious and suffocates this offense. Line is avg on run – AD elevates them. Pass blocking is less than average – TB exacerbates the problem. My analysis – TB must diversify his passing tree (not only a fade ball problem) and improve his mechanics in year 3 or he is honestly too limited. QB wins are a bad stat. Think Sanchez in Rex D led Jets heyday. Winning with D, Strong run and limiting Sanchez effect on games was and is not now a Superbowl recipe. When Jets finally asked Sanchez to make throws he became a turnover machine. TB has the intangibles. He needs to develop his arm talent to give the offense breathing room. He will be asked to in year 3. I hope he improves and gets it done. I think its 50-50.

Hell if OLine improves to avg pass protection and TB figures it out in the playoffs this year – Vikes are legit SB contenders already. (I’m a true fan also) I am far from a TB hater. Year 3 with: Sully & Loadholt back + Oline pick + WR pick and more time for this years instantly productive draft class to grow – puts TB in best possible position to succeed in 2016. SKOL. Agree or Disagree with where we are now and importance of year 3? Love to hear feedback.

  4. Observations of the last play Sunday night… 1. Did the play get off before the clock expired? No it did not. 2. How can a referee NOT throw a flag for holding on that play, occurring out in the open and right in front of Rodgers? Had that lob somehow been successful, there would have been a load of controversy.

    1. I don’t know, Coach. I looked at it frame by frame…the center moves the ball the frame before the clock hits zero. It’s very close….credit to our defense. They got back, and KNOCKED that ball down! Very good job by Barr and Rhodes.
      That was definitely holding.
