  1. Totally 100% disagree with your take on Osemele. Your plan is to draft a guy that you hope can be him in a few years? That’s not a plan. Our line needs to be better THIS year. Rick has spent in free agency when the player fits the need and Osemele is exactly that.

  2. Love the podcast . I have to say I agree with holdsteady about osmele though . In your previous podcast you also kindve took a shot at the idea of signing him which I just don’t understand . He should be at the top of everyone’s list . Listen I love building through the draft to but as the previous comment stated we need to improve the line right now . Not only does it improve the line immediately it also gives us tons of options in the future ! He starts at left guard which should do wonders for kalil , if it doesn’t then next year we let kalil go and osmele could kick out to LT if we still don’t have a better option . Or if we see the need to rid of ourselves of loadhoalt he can kick out to RT . He’d be a huge addition overall

  3. I like Osemele. But it’s foolhardy to think he won’t get $10M+ per year if hits the open market. Plus the Ravens are going to do everything to keep him. Great teams aren’t built via bidding wars. Ask the Bills how that Mario Williams contract is working out. I agree he’s a great player, but let’s not act like the Vikings will be his only suitors in free agency. I’m choosing being pragmatic over pipe dreams.

  4. The top guard in the NFL makes 8mm, and the #5 guard makes $7mm. I don’t think Osemele is the best guard in the league nor do I think he will get a penny over 9mm. At 8.5 per year that is still more than 20% than the league top paid guard. I think your valuation at 10mm is WAY high. 8.5-9mm should be doable and given his skill and LT versatility well worth for a guy entering his prime.

Also when is the last time we drafted an OL who stepped in day 1 and made an impact? Spielman is in the media the last few saying how most OL coming through draft are two point, and takes sooo long to covert them to NFL. I would not count on us being able to solve all our OL problems through the draft. In fact if last few years drafts have shown anything is that drafting OL is a crap shoot at best.

Overpay for Osemele, perhaps but make no mistake our window is open now and this guy solves LG for the next 4 years at a very high level. This is a huge need, and a rare case where modestly overspending is justified, and it’s not going to cost 10mm a year. I agree that is crazy money for a guard, and he is going to get that much from ANY team. Not a penny over 9, and I think more likely 8-8.5 per.
