Danielle’s Game Day Dish: Week 11

Written by Adam’s wife, Danielle

I am sorry to have to say the Vikings have lost again. This is the first time since 2013 the Vikings have lost four games in a row.

Even though things are looking bleak right now, I am still looking at this season with positive eyes. The Vikings are playing the Cardinals this week and have not lost to the Cardinals at home game since 1977. I hope that this game will pull the Vikings out of their losing streak, back into a winning streak, and straight to the Super Bowl.

This week I decided to make a cheese dip and let me tell you, I am ecstatic that I chose this dish. I love every dish I have made, but it has been a really long time since I have made a dish that makes me melt in enjoyment. I truly feel I have never made a dish where the flavors are married together so well. When I was eating the dip, I just took a bite and let it sit in my mouth so my tongue could get a glimpse of every flavor and it was heavenly.

There aren’t many ingredients in this dish meaning that every ingredient truly has to count. I used an asiago and fontina cheese because of the mix of creamy and sharp together to give great flavor. I also added sausage to ensure a savory flavor came through. Even though those three things are amazing, what I love the most about this dip is the garlic and lemon zest.

Just take a minute to think about this. Everyone loves garlic. It is the perfect unifier in all recipes. It truly brings every ingredient together. It is very rare that garlic is upstaged but in this dip it has been, the lemon zest is the true star of the show.

I think we can all agree that cheese is heavy and when cheese is a main ingredient in a recipe it can leave you feeling listless. The lemon zest in this recipe is amazing because it brings a lightness and freshness. There isn’t much zest so it doesn’t become an overpowering flavor but it is just enough to get it in every bite and break up the heaviness of the cheese.

Seriously, this dip is a true star. I hope your mouth is just watering just thinking about all of the amazing flavors that come together so well. This dish is so easy to make and so marvelous, I truly hope everyone tries it so be sure to pin it so you don’t lose the recipe.
