Rookies waiting: Diggs, Robinson among Vikings’ inactives

A few of the Minnesota Vikings’ rookies will have to wait to make their NFL debuts.

Receiver Stefon Diggs was, perhaps, the most noteworthy among Minnesota’s six gameday inactive players. Fellow draft pick Edmond Robinson is also inactive, along with rookie quarterback Taylor Heinicke, offensive linemen Jeremiah Sirles, tight end Chase Ford and defensive end Justin Trattou.

Diggs is the Vikings’ sixth wide receiver behind Mike Wallace, Charles Johnson, Jarius Wright, Cordarrelle Patterson and Adam Thielen; so it’s not a complete surprise to see him inactive for Week 1. Patterson is the top kickoff returner and Thielen is a core special teams player.

Ford sits as Minnesota has three tight ends (Kyle Rudolph, Rhett Ellison and rookie MyCole Pruitt) and fullback Zach Line active. Trattou sits as Scott Crichton and rookie Danielle Hunter are active as the backups to Brian Robison and Everson Griffen at defensive end. Sirles just joined the team after being acquired in a trade from San Diego as 53-man rosters were set last weekend.
