Purple FTW! Podcast: 9 Under the Radar Vikings Training Camp Questions (ep. 381)

Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings Training Camp is less than two weeks away and all of the main storylines have already been beaten to death. Will Laquon Treadwell rebound in year 2? Will Teddy Bridgewater start the year on the PUP? Can Anthony Barr earn his 5th year option? Can the offensive line not be garbage this season? Blah blah blah. So today we decided to take a deeper dive into 9 under the radar training camp questions that I’m interested in.

Today’s Talkers Include:
• What if Trae Waynes or Mackensie Alexander are bad?
• What’s gonna happen with Taylor Heinicke?
• Is Joe Berger still #Good?
• What’s B-Rob’s role in 2017?
• Is this finally the year for Marcus Sherels?
• Does Tre Roberson crack the 53-man roster?
• Is this it for Antone Exum?
• Which UDFA will make the roster?
• Who’s the punter/kicker gonna be?

All that and more “How’s Teddy Look?” chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast!

The nature of the NFL is that of a business, and franchises eliminated from the playoffs are in the business of planning ahead. The Minnesota Vikings, whose season ended Sunday following a 38-10 win over the Chicago Bears, started that process on Monday morning.

As announced on the team’s official website, the Vikings signed nine players to Reserve/Futures contracts, all of whom appeared on Minnesota’s practice squad during the 2016 season. They include:

We’ve been keeping very close watch on all things regarding the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, 53-man roster, and the depth chart.

When the team announced their final cuts and subsequent practice squad additions many of us Vikings fans were elated to see preseason showers Tre Roberson and Toby Johnson make it through unclaimed. As it turns out, Roberson may not be in as high of demand as we thought he might be after a great camp and preseason.

The quarterback-turned-cornerback has already been replaced on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad.

The deadline for final 53-man cuts has come and gone, with the Minnesota Vikings waiving a handful of talented players. Some, like Jhurell Pressley, landed with other teams, while others may not find a new home before the season.

This morning at 1 pm EST, teams began to assemble their practice squads; a group of 10 players who practice each week but are not eligible for the weekly active roster. The practice squad offers rookies and other players the chance to develop, grow within a system, and compete for a roster spot the following year.

Adam Thielen, a former practice squad star, is now one of Minnesota’s top-three wide receivers. He’s proof that patience and an unrelenting work ethic at the bottom of the depth chart can lead to meaningful opportunities down the road.

For the 10 players added to the Vikings practice squad, that journey is an admirable, if unlikely, possibility.

Crystal Balling the Fringe Vikings Guys [PODCAST]

90-man rosters are like an episode of Game of Thrones: Not everyone is going to make it.

But what lies ahead for some of these fringe Minnesota Vikings players that are likely to be cut in the next two weeks? I do my best Miss Cleo (RIP) impression and look into my magic ball to see the future of these players. Some of their futures include football. Some include being a manager at HuHot.

All that and other “CALL ME NOW.” chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast!
