Luke Inman (@Luke_Spinman) joined the Purple FTW! Podcast live from Mobile, AL where he was covering the Senior Bowl for eDraft to give us an insider’s perspective on the unofficial kickoff to NFL Draft season.

I asked Luke what it’s like rubbing elbows with NFL scouts, coaches, & executives (including a Spielman sighting & story). As well as which players made some money over the week and which ones will have some work to do as we hurdle towards the April 30th Draft in Chicago.

All that on top of Luke’s take on specific names I’d like to see in Purple this fall as well as a report about Charlie Johnson confirmed by ‘sources’ on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast.

Episode after the jump.

Purple For The Win Podcast

[Note this is a cross-post from Purple FTW]

Vikings football never sleeps. Perhaps that’s why we’re 0-for-4 in the Super Bowl as sleep deprivation can be a mother.

Purple FTW has had a nice little break since the Vikings season ended (Insert – “Your team didn’t make the playoffs joke here”). But it’s high time to get back at it. The NFL is now a year-round league, ipso-facto this mom & pop podcast is now year-round too.

So we’re back on the weekly schedule.

This Thursday January 22nd, we’ll get a live report from the Senior Bowl with our man Luke Inman. He’ll point out a gem or two that Wheelin’ & Dealin’ Rick Spielman should keep his eye on for The Draft.

After that, new episodes will drop every Tuesday evening starting on the 27th. Most shows will feature a guest interview, although some weeks it’ll just be me mumbling on about how we need a true free safety so Harrison can spend more time down in the box where he’s best utilized.

Upcoming Episodes
• JAN 22nd (PM) – Senior Bowl Fiesta with Luke Inman
• JAN 27th – Adam CarlsonThe Viking Age & Purple People Podcast
• JAN 29th – Super Bowl Preview Special
• FEB 3rd – Andrew Renschen – Writer for First Round Grade
• FEB 10th – THE 100th EPIOSDE EXTRAVAGANZA
• FEB 17th – Christopher Gates – Founder of The Daily Norseman
• FEB 24th – Lindsey Young – Vikings Territory
• MAR 3rd – Free Agent Target Special

• APR 28th – Official Draft Preview
• MAR 5th – Draft Recap – WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??!?

Also the plan is to do several LIVE shows from Mankato during training camp. Come to an arrangement with a local watering hole, plop down the gear, and have our favorite guests stroll into the Purple FTW! Thunderdome at their leisure to drop some nuggets about our 2015 Vikings. I’d also love to meet the awesome fan(s) of our humble podcast.

Bottomline is The Dirty Man is back for the offseason and looking forward to the most anticipated season that I can remember in my Vikings fandom. 2015 is gonna be a helluva ride. #GoalSantaClara

Marco Polo was an Italian merchant traveler who found fame for his exploration and adventure. Polo’s critics claimed that he was somewhat of a wanderer—not always knowing exactly where he was headed.

Finding that “Franchise” quarterback in the NFL Draft can be a hit-or-miss venture reminiscent of a Marco Polo expedition. And, it can also be blind chance, much like that silly childhood hide-and-seek pool game we all know and love.

Anyway, one Italian name attempting to navigate up NFL Draft boards is Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. At the moment, he is not projected as a first round pick, but teams in the top ten like Houston, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Oakland and Minnesota who might be shopping for a quarterback, could hold off on spending their first pick on a signal-caller in hopes of landing Garoppolo at the top of round two or three.

I apologize for my absence of late.

I have been in a self-induced NyQuil coma for the last few days and every time I started to write a new post this is as far as I got:  “The Vikings are realllyoresfjlksdgjfdksl… Childress.”

Not sure what I was even going for there.

However, it is time to move on and this week will certainly have a Senior Bowl theme to it.  I plan on covering the events, including updates for how the Vikings coaching staff is faring in Mobile, in great detail.

Check back for updates, but in the meantime you can see Leslie Frazier’s opening address to his Senior Bowl team by clicking here.

A few posts down, I mentioned that Leslie Frazier is confident that his coaching staff will be coaching a squad at the Senior Bowl later in January.

In the comments, some of you had questions I couldn’t answer about how it is determined who gets to coach the game, which is viewed as an added advantage in terms of up-close scouting of a decent number of prospects.

That question appears to have been answered through various tweets by Vikings beat writers.  It sounds like the option is given to teams based on the order of the upcoming NFL Draft, and teams are given the option to send their coaching staff if they like.

So with only two squads to coach, and the Vikings sitting at #3, why is Frazier so confident he’ll be asked to lead one of the teams?

Well, the game is only a couple of weeks away, and both Indianapolis and St. Louis are up in the air in terms of their G.M. and coaching positions, so it seems likely that at least one of those teams will opt out of the chance to coach a squad.

Hope that helps to clarify matters a little bit.
