There was also the story of Anthony Barr reneging on his verbal agreement with the New York Jets and returning to Minnesota.
While the Vikings are in the midst of closing out the regular season, the salary cap specialists over at Spotrac are peeking ahead to the offseason. They recently published an article naming a contract extension candidate and roster bubble candidate for each NFL team.
The Minnesota Vikings announced this morning that linebacker Ben Gedeon (concussion) and guard Josh Kline (foot) will be out for their game this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
News emerged from TCO Performance Center today that added fuel to the fire of rampant and baseless trade speculation. Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs missed Wednesday’s practice with a non-injury designation. Diggs was one of two non-participants on the team’s first injury report of the week.
The Vikings will face one of the NFL’s fiercest defensive fronts on Sunday and they’ll do so without a starting member of their offensive line. Right guard Josh Kline will miss the Week 4 contest as he recovers from a concussion that he suffered during the team’s Week 3 matchup against the Raiders. He’ll miss his first game in 49 consecutive starts, which was the longest streak among active guards in the league. Dakota Dozier, who filled in at left guard for Pat Elflein in Week 2, will take Kline’s place as the starting right guard.
In only four days the Vikings roster will be cut down from 88 players to 53. By 3pm (CST) on Saturday the regular season squad, along with a 10-man practice squad, will be assembled. The team began trimming the fat on Tuesday, releasing cornerback Bene Benwikere and wide receiver Jordan Taylor. They waived running back Roc Thomas and added guard Tiano Pupungatoa, then waived safety Micah Abernathy and acquired running back De’Angelo Henderson. Now, a few days into training camp, the team roster sits at an offseason maximum 90 players. To make things a little more interesting, I’ve noted which players will become free agents following the season and also added my 53-man projection.
