Minnesota Vikings-Green Bay Packers-Chicago Bears-PFF

The Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings are out of the playoff race, the siding is falling off the stadium, planes are skidding off of runways, and the head coach has one eye. Pretty standard with how the 2016 season has gone. We welcomed Eric Eager of Pro Football Focus into the Blue Door Pub Studios to help us limp to the finish line of this Vikings campaign. Eric and I chatted Pro Bowl, the Packers massacre, how the offensive line can be improved (fixed?), the rise of Adam Jerome Thielen, and a whole lot more.

All that and more “I was told there would be no math” chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast!

Minnesota Vikings - Green Bay Packers

The Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings got stuck on the runway Friday night landing at historic Appleton International Airport. They were also stuck in neutral Friday afternoon at Lambeau Field as they let the Green Bay Packers stomp all over them on Christmas Eve. The Purple are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Not exactly the holiday gift Vikings fans dreamed of, but grab some egg nog and a cookie or two and join us by the fire as we recap.

As is the case every week, but is particularly true this week, the enemy is the Green Bay Packers. The outcome of Sunday night’s matchup will give one of the two teams an early boost in their bid for the NFC North which makes it a very important one on the schedule.

A lot is going on, no doubt, with the quarterback situation and the new stadium… but make no mistake about the goal being the same as it has ever been: Beat Green Bay.

We invited back our old sparring partner, Packer Ranter, for a quick Q&A session with this idea that we’d have a little fun while also learning something about the 2016 version of the Green Bay Packers. I agreed to answer some of their questions, as well, so be sure to keep an eye out for my answers over at Packer Ranter.

Minnesota Vikings Green Bay Packers

So are you gonna Love US Bank Stadium or you gonna List It?

The Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings kick the tires and lights the fires to our new home for the first time (that counts) Sunday night against arch-nemesis Green Bay. The Packers are 1-0 after coming in and stealing the show at Jacksonville last Sunday, and the winner of this Sunday Night Football match will have a leg up in the NFC North race as the 2016 campaign chugs along.

Alex Gelhar (NFL.com, NFL Fantasy Live Podcast, Packers Apologist) rejoins the show to give us some insight about that team from the wrong side of the Mississippi, how the Purple matches up against #TeamAlJazeera, and a little fantasy talk at the end (pick up Kyle Rudolph off the free agent scrap heap).

All that and other “Build a wall for THIS border, imo” chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast!

The time of year where NFL executives hold their breathes and pray that the next offseason headline doesn’t involve one of their players is almost over. The news of suspensions and accusations and allegations and social media revelations will soon give way to some actual between-the-hashes updates. For that reason, it is time to reboot our weekly glance at the nemeses (yes, that’s the plural version of “nemesis,” I looked it up!) of the Minnesota Vikings: The NFC North competition.

NFC NORTH COMPETITION: Chicago Bears

The biggest news out of Chicago this week involved an utility pole getting blown to bits during an epic lightning storm (hence the video above) and I’m leading with that for no other reason than that I was there for the storm, my tidbit on the Bears is much less exciting than the two listed below it, and the video is pretty freaking cool.

Former Bears defensive end Corey Wootton has decided to retire after six NFL seasons which ended in the preseason last preseason when he suffered a torn pectoral and ended up on Detroit’s injured reserve. Wootton, as you will likely recall, played for the 2013 season with the Vikings.
