SPOILER: The Vikings End Up with THREE First Round Picks

Everyone and their mother is on “MOCK DRAFT 79.8!”, but we here at Purple FTW are back with our 2nd Annual “Only Mock Draft! (v1.0)”. Check out how we did last year. We we’re all in on Teddy (took him at #8), so it was a massive win for the Vikings to grab both him AND Barr in the 1st. We whiffed on all the other picks. #YOLO

Enjoy this year’s Only Mock Draft. A full rundown will be posted in a few days because… We want you to listen first! (SPOILER: There are trades. Because Slick Rick gets busy at the Draft like me at Popeyes chicken. #Biscuits)

In the 2014 NFL draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected OG David Yankey in the fifth round with the 145th overall pick. At the time, Mike Mayock had this to say about the pick.

“This is a great fit for the Vikings. They believe in physical players and Yankey is a phone booth brawler. Trust me, I know (Vikings general manager) Rick Spielman and (head coach) Mike Zimmer, and this is the kind of player they bang the table for.”

So what went wrong? Yankey didn’t play a single snap as a rookie last season. And when starting guards Charlie Johnson and Brandon Fusco went down with injuries, it was Vladimir Ducasse, Joe Berger and Mike Harris that stepped up and earned playing time ahead of him.

As the NFL Scouting Combine comes to an end, teams will shift their focus to individual pro day workouts and private visits — the final steps in the 2015 NFL Draft process. At Vikings Territory, we’ve watched players blaze through the 40-yard dash, we’ve read the reports of impressive team meetings, and now, we’re updating our mock drafts.

Since joining as a contributor at Vikings Territory, I’ve wanted to put together my own mock draft. The process is finally complete — you can read my full first-round mock HERE.

It’s the question everyone will be asking until the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are finally at the podium with the first overall pick in April’s NFL draft.

Recent momentum has swung toward Jameis Winston as the favorite to land the top spot, however, in my 2015 mock draft, I have Marcus Mariota as the first overall pick.

I think he’s the right fit for one major reason… on January 8th the Buccaneers officially hired Dirk Koetter as the team’s new offensive coordinator.

Koetter worked eight seasons with Mariota’s current head coach, Mark Helfrich, as part of the same coaching staff at Boise State and Arizona State.

Koetter’s strong connecting with the current Oregon staff might be a telling sign that the Buccaneers already know the direction they are headed.

You can checkout more of my mock draft here.
