My name is Joe Johnson and I’m the owner of purplePTSD.com and now VikingsTerritory.com!  First I would like to say that I am beyond excited to be working with the amazing fellas at VT, but also that I’ll be working with a site that has one of the most loyal and awesome reader bases around! If you’re not familiar with purplePTSD, we’ve been around since mid-2015 and really try to post as many POV’s as possible to represent the wide spectrum of views that exist in Vikings fandom (I mean, some people still like Childress… Go figure).

While it hasn’t been broadcast very much, if, at all, VikingsTerritory.com merged with purplePTSD.com a few months ago as the two sites seemed to have a lot of things in common in terms of goals and growth, while also really having their own distinct personalities. As we approach the new year, we’ve been working hard on ensuring that our readers look at our sites as more than just a place to read news or opinions (which is obviously still very important), but also a place where people can listen/watch original Vikings content, hang out with other Vikings fans and also find tickets to the games (home or away) or merchandise.

To ensure that we are bringing you as wide a range of views and content as possible we’ve decided to start cross-promoting some aspects of each site with the other! So, that’s where today’s episode of the purpleJOURNAL Podcast comes in! The show is hosted by me, Joe Johnson, a lifelong Vikings fan who represents the more emotional side of the fanbase. Luckily, that is offset by the co-hosts of the show the first of which is Joe Oberle, an incredibly accomplished writer who is a senior writer (and senior, period) for purplePTSD.com as well as TheSportPost.com. He has a press pass and stops down to Winter Park every Wednesday before we record the show! Our second co-host is Luke Braun, another senior writer from purplePTSD.com and co-host of the Pocket Protectors podcast over on the ClimbingthePocket Network. Luke is our analytical mastermind, who loves to look at the numbers behind the game and what they mean.

So without further ado…

Emmanuel Lamur Steps Up in Place of an Injured Anthony Barr

The Minnesota Vikings have played exceptional defense through six weeks of the 2017 NFL season.

This isn’t a secret. Minnesota ranks atop the league in rush yards per game allowed (3rd), total yards per game allowed (5th) and points per game allowed (5th). Moreover, many of the yards the Vikings defense has sacrificed in coverage this season have come during garbage time, suggesting that this unit could be even better than the statistics may suggest.

Simply put, Minnesota’s defense has performed at an extremely high level with both the film and statistics reinforcing this notion. One of the greatest reasons for this is the unit’s collective ability to maintain good coverage in the secondary, tackle effectively, limit yards after catch and, specifically as of late, create turnovers.

Let’s take a look at how Harrison Smith, Xavier Rhodes and Co. performed both against the Green Bay Packers during Week 6 and collectively across the season to date.

The NFC North is wide open. Do the Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings have the fortitude to ascend to the summit and plant their flag? Darren “Doogie” Wolfson (@DWolfsonKSTP) of The Scoop Podcast stops in for his weekly spot to discuss just that. Later on in the show, friend of the program Dr. Eric Eager (@PFF_EricEager) chimes in with some Vikings takes and grades from the good people at Pro Football Focus.

Purple FTW! Podcast: Vikings Raiding Party feat. Daniel House (ep. 437)

Optimism is a weird feeling, isn’t it? The Minnesota Fightin’ Vikings are in first place, the offensive line isn’t a sieve, the Zimmer Hellfire Defense is playing at a Top-5 level, and Teddy Dave Bridgewater is set to return to practice today. I’m not comfortable with this level of good vibes. To help comfort me, I brought in 1500 ESPN Boss Daniel House (@DanielHouseNFL) to discuss the current Vikings outlook, preview the Baltimore Ravens (The Chester Taylor Bowl), and if we can bury the Green Bay Packers (spoiler: no).
