Another Vikings Loss

November 4, 2012, by Adam Warwas 41 comments

With five and a half minutes left and down by ten points, Christian Ponder ended the Vikings hopes of winning by throwing two troubling passes deep, one of which ended up in a defender’s hands for an interception.

The Seahawks were then able to use their running game to chew the clock and essentially put the game to rest in drawn-out fashion.

The Vikings, for the second week in a row, were the only NFC North team to lose and are now closer to last place of the division than first place. At 5-4, the Vikings uphill battle to qualify for the postseason, and that battle is one I have trouble seeing them win with a passing game like this.

Your final score is 30-20, with Adrian Peterson rushing for 170 yards, but Christian Ponder only nabbing 58 yards through the air.

A Big Stop Followed By Nothing Much

November 4, 2012, by Adam Warwas 2 comments

It looked like the Vikings weren’t going to be able to stop the Seahawks at the end of the third quarter but some decent pressure did the trick, and Seattle had to punt from midfield at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The punt landed at the Vikings five yard line, leaving a daunting task ahead of Christian Ponder and the Minnesota offense.

Percy Harvin amazingly reentered the game after suffering an ugly looking hit to his ankle on the previous drive.

Needing to drive 95 yards, Christian Ponder began the drive by scrambling away from pressure for a short gain, but then a simple handoff to Adrian Peterson did the trick to move the chains.  Then a short pass from Ponder to Peterson set up a manageable second down, which was followed by an off-the-mark pass from Ponder towards a tight end.  On third down, Ponder missed badly on a crossing route and the drive ended.

The Vikings will have to get more production from their offense, and perhaps a miracle from their defense, if they are going to come out of this smiling.

Starting To Pile It On

November 4, 2012, by Adam Warwas No comments yet

The third quarter, thus far, has pretty much been dominated by Seattle’s patient and steady offensive effort.

Marshawn Lynch and Golden Tate helped quarterback Russell Wilson plod down the field in organized fashion, as did a pair of offsides penalties against Brian Robison and Everson Griffen.  A three yard touchdown from Marshawn Lynch capped the impressive drive.

With four minutes left in the third quarter, the Vikings now trail by 10 points, and may have to rely on (gulp) the arm of Christian Ponder to get them back into this one.

On second thought, just keep running it, please.

Another Peterson TD Ties It Up

November 4, 2012, by Adam Warwas No comments yet

Following Sidney Rice’s gimme touchdown, the Vikings were able to move the ball efficiently (with help from a pass interference call) and Ponder looked a little improved over his couple of first drives.

Adrian Peterson, however, continues to steal the show and tied the game at 14 with a forceful four yard run on second and goal.

Just a little ways into the second quarter, Peterson has rushed 10 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Peterson Dominates First Drive Of The Game

November 4, 2012, by Adam Warwas 1 comment

While there is no live chat today here at VT, I am going to try and provide some updates from time to time throughout the afternoon.

First up is the Vikings first drive going for a touchdown, putting them up 7-0 in under two minutes of play in Seattle.

On the first drive, Adrian Peterson looked to be at his best when he ripped off a 74 yard run to set the Viking sup at the goalline after getting caught from behind.  After a failed attempt from Christian Ponder to pass for the score, Peterson punched it in on the next play.

I said it before the game, and I’ll say it again, running is going to be the key to seeing offensive success in Seattle.  Dial up lots of it, Musgrave, and hope for similar results.

Buccaneers Plunder Vikings, Angry Brett Re-emerges

October 25, 2012, by Brett Anderson 20 comments

I didn’t understand it. How could the Vikings be getting absolutely demolished at home against a 2-4 Buccaneers team? This isn’t possible. This just cannot be happening.

And then it happened. It hit me hard – harder than Chris Kluwe pu… Nevermind…

But I just didn’t understand it until NFL Network shared this wonderful stat with us: The Buccaneers broke their 10 road game losing streak with a win over, our beloved purple, the Minnesota Vikings.

Why didn’t anyone mention the Buccaneers hadn’t won an away game in 640 minutes of football. This thing could have been much easier to endure.

Nevertheless, here we are. The Vikings are 5-3. We got decimated at home by a 2-4 team. The sky is falling. I’m on the ledge. Take your positivity elsewhere. Angry Brett has arrived.

Links Of The Week: Tampa Bay Coming Up

October 24, 2012, by Adam Warwas 7 comments

I don’t like this short week stuff.  The Vikings only get one practice to prepare for their next opponent, and hack bloggers only get three days to speculate about the outcome.  Then, after tomorrow night’s game, it will feel like forever before we get to see our Vikes play again.

Hey, by the way, lets plan on meeting right here at kickoff for a game time Live Chat!

Okay, onto this week’s links:

  • The Vikings structured John Carlson’s contract in such a way that they could get out from under it fairly easily should they decide to.
  • For the sixth time in his career Adrian Peterson has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the week.
  • A look at how Alan Williams is getting comfortable enough with the front four to scale back on the number of blitzes called.
  • Christian Ponder is well aware of the fact that he needs to improve over his performance from last week.
  • Was that the real Christian Ponder we saw last week or will Bill Musgrave dig him out of this rut?
  • Antoine Winfield and Chris Cook are both getting some notice this season.
  • The Vikings are predicted to beat the Bucs, but it may not be so easy.
  • Many want to know if the Vikings are for real… Adrian Peterson has a simple answer for you.
  • Five big questions facing the Vikings this week.
  • A little ditty to get you psyched about Thursday Night Football.
  • Is the Vikings game in London next season a slap in the face of Vikings fans and Minnesota voters?
  • The final injury report prior to tomorrow’s game.
  • Leslie Frazier sees “intensity” as a key in this upcoming matchup.
  • The Josh Freeman and Vincent Jackson duo has become a very dangerous threat to opposing defenses.
  • The environmental study for the new Vikings stadium is now underway.
  • Insulting someone repeatedly and then asking them for a boatload of money is a great strategy, right?
  • Playing on Thursdays isn’t easy for either team.
  • I don’t want to shock you, but our punter has said some stuff about some stuff… again.
  • Matt Blair will join the Vikings Ring of Honor tomorrow night.
