Welcome to the last installment of the Vikings Territory Training Camp Primer series focusing on Alex Boone, Pat Elflein, Joe Berger, and the Minnesota Vikings interior offensive line.

It’s no secret the Vikings’ offensive line had a rough 2016 season. Multiple players who were expected to make an impact up front were lost for a variety of reasons; Mike Harris didn’t play a snap all year due to an undisclosed illness or injury, Phil Loadholt retired before the season, and tackles Matt Kalil, Andre Smith and Jake Long all suffered season-ending injures.

The Matt Kalil project is done. It’s time for the reign of Riley Reiff.

Matt Kalil is no longer a member of the Minnesota Vikings. He’s a Carolina Panther. It still hasn’t sunk in for me yet. Probably because he missed almost all of last year with a hip injury. Looking back, the fourth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft really only had one great season in Minnesota — his first. The past few seasons, a growing number of Vikings fans labeled Kalil as an overpaid, average lineman with an attitude problem.

Kalil simply wasn’t the left tackle the Vikings needed him to be. The team confirmed such when they replaced him this offseason with another 2012 first-round pick, Riley Reiff, who will now anchor the left side of Minnesota’s offensive line.

Recap Of Vikings Minicamp – Day 3

The Minnesota Vikings wrapped up their three-day Minicamp Thursday. The team’s one-hour practice included individual drills, situational training, and more red zone work.

A very “cordial” Mike Zimmer seemed happy with the current state of the team. It should be noted, however, that the head coach may have been in good mood because of some news he received from his doctor.

Vikings OTAs: 7 Positions Up For Grabs

The Minnesota Vikings’ organized team activities, or OTAs, began Tuesday. OTAs are offseason training sessions run with the purpose of developing players; or, simply put, practices without tackling. There are no 1-on-1 drills, only team drills.

OTAs can be a good barometer of how the team’s roster is going to shape up come the regular season. Generally, the players who practice together play together. Certainly, there are exceptions.

Lets take a look at several key position battles that will unfold during the Vikings preseason.
