Adam’s Mock Draft

UPDATED:  April 24th, 2012

Only a few days left to go!  And then all the hours spent on mock draft’s will be realized for exactly what they are… completely pointless.  Ha!  Oh well, it is always fun, and enjoy my final version for 2012!

Round 1

PickTeamPlayer SelectedAnalysis
1IndianapolisAndrew Luck
QB / Stanford
This has long been my choice here, as has been the case with most draftniks. Once again, no change.
Previous Pick: No change since first version.
2Washington
(from St. Louis)
Robert Griffin III
QB / Baylor
Once again, this has been my pick since the very first mock version I put out. Of course, at the time, I didn't know that it would be Washington to pick RGIII... but I knew he would go in this spot.
Previous Pick: No change since first version.
3MinnesotaMatt Kalil
OT / USC
Trading back could be a serious option for the Vikings, especially if someone values Trent Richardson or Ryan Tannehill enough to ensure the pick is theirs. The team wants you to think that Mo Claiborne or Justin Blackmon are in the mix, but I am not buying it.
Previous Pick: No change since first version.
4ClevelandTrent Richardson
RB / Alabama
Of all the teams in the top 10, the Browns have the most clear cut need at running back. That works out well, however, as Trent Richardson is on the board and is the clear cut best running back in this class.
Previous Pick: CB Morris Claiborne
5Tampa BayMorris Claiborne
CB / LSU
The Bucs have a number of needs, so they can take the best player available and not feel bad about it in the slightest.
Previous Pick: RB Trent Richardson
6St. Louis
(from Washington)
Justin Blackmon
WR / Oklahoma State
The Rams have to give Bradford a chance to succeed. This is hands down the most important thing they can do for him right now: Give him legit weapons to work with.
Previous Pick: No change
7JacksonvilleKendall Wright
WR / Baylor
The Jags can stretch the field with Laurent Robinson and Wright coupled together. A high character prospect with some serious wheels.
Previous Pick: No change
8MiamiRyan Tannehill
QB / Texas A&M
I think the Fins will get their guy (Tannehill) in this Draft, I'm just not sure if they will be patient enough to stay at eight and risk losing him. They may have to trade up.
Previous Pick: No Change.
9CarolinaFletcher Cox
DT / Mississippi State
The Panthers look to improve on defense, hoping Cam Newton and Steve Smith can carry them on defense. An explosive player like Cox should pay dividends.
Previous Pick: DT Michael Brockers
Vikings Territory Tweet GRIDiron
10BuffaloRiley Reiff
OT / Iowa
With Bell out of the picture, and Super Mario helping to solidify the defense, the Bills must turn their attention to protecting their investment in Fitzpatrick.
Previous Pick: No Change.
11Kansas CityLuke Kuechly
MLB / Boston College
Romeo Crennel will have no problem picking a high powered linebacker this early in the Draft. He knows the type of impact a guy like Kuechly can have.
Previous Pick: G David DeCastro
12SeattleMelvin Ingram
DE / South Carolina
The fate of Seattle's offense rests in the hands of either Matt Flynn or Tarvaris Jackson. In the meantime, their defense has plenty of fixes needed, and nothing helps a struggling defense more than a great pass rush.
Previous Pick: DE Quinton Coples
13ArizonaMichael Floyd
WR / Notre Dame
The Cardinals finally need to give Larry Fitzgerald what he has wanted ever since Boldin left town... a legit threat on the other side of the field. A no-excuses season for Kevin Kolb.
Previous Pick: MLB / Luke Kuechly
14DallasMark Barron
S / Alabama
Jerry Jones made it clear that his defense, particularly his secondary, was going to be the focus this offseason. Grabbing the free agent market's best corner (Carr) and pairing him with this Draft's best safety is a great way to do it.
Previous Pick: DE Melvin Ingram
15PhiladelphiaMichael Brockers
DT / LSU
The Eagles have a good enough overall roster to simply take the guy they have the highest grade on. I think that could possibly be Brockers at this point.
Previous Pick: CB Dre Kirkpatrick
16New York JetsQuinton Coples
DE / North Carolina
It seems likely that this Draft will be all about the front seven (i.e. Pass Rush) for the Jets. Coples represents value and need at this point in the game.
Previous Pick: OLB Courtney Upshaw
17CincinnatiDre Kirkpatrick
CB / Alabama
The Bengals never intended to lose Jonathan Joseph and now they must endevour to replace him. Kirkpatrick is a strong value pick at this point.
Previous Pick: WR Michael Floyd
18San DiegoDavid DeCastro
G / Stanford
Losing Marcus McNeil and Kris Dielman in the same offseason is the stuff nightmares are made of for Chargers fans. They try and make a seamless transition by selecting this class's best guard.
Previous Pick: OT Jonathan Martin
19ChicagoAmini Silaolu
G / Midwestern State
The Bears must be fed up with their underwhelming O-Line, and it is time to grab one of the meanest linemen in this class to ensure a change takes place.
Previous Pick: CB Janoris Jenkins
20TennesseeDontari Poe
DT / Memphis
Poe has all the tools to succeed in the NFL, and now the Titans want to give him the motivation. If it works out, this could be the type of pick that defines a generation for the Titans.
Previous Pick: DT Michael Brockers
Check out our 2012 community mock draft!
21CincinnatiWhitney Mercilus
DE / Illinois
The Bengals already upgraded their secondary by adding Kirkpatrick, and now they should help make everyone on defense look better by improving the pass rush.
Previous Pick: RB Lamar Miller
22ClevelandStephon Gilmore
CB / South Carolina
The Browns were nervous when they passed on Claiborne earlier in the day, so now they buy themselves some insurance by nabbing a guy with great size to play across from Joe Haden.
Previous Pick: DT Dontari Poe
23DetroitJonathan Martin
OT / Stanford
At some point the Lions have to get serious about their offensive line. I know we've been saying that forever now... but seriously. Martin will likely be a successor to Backus in the near future.
Previous Pick: S Mark Barron
24PittsburghChandler Jones
DE / Syracuse
The Steelers age on defense reared its ugly head during the post season, and now it is time to put their focus on causing the chaos on defense that they are used to.
Previous Pick: DE Whitney Mercilus
25DenverReuben Randle
WR / LSU
You don't spend $95 million on a guy like Peyton Manning unless you plan on surrounding him with talent. Randle has tons of tape suggesting that he will be able to produce after catching a nicely placed football.
Previous Pick: TE Dwayne Allen
26HoustonNick Perry
DE / Alabama
The Texans would love to see an elite reciever to fall to them here, but the value will be there in later rounds. Instead, they look to replace Mario Williams and keep a tenacious pass rush on the field at all times.
Previous Pick: No Change.
27New England
(from New Orleans)
Courtney Upshaw
OLB / Alabama
The Patriots have a lot of pieces in place on offense. So, the defense must be their number one priority as they try to rebound from a disheartening Super Bowl loss. Upshaw has slid in this class, but he could fit in just dandy with New England's system.
Previous Pick: DT Jerel Worthy
28Green BayHarrison Smith
S / Notre Dame
Age and talent are both issues in Green Bay’s secondary. With such a talented roster, they can afford to make a slight reach in the name of addressing a need here. The NFC North has some of the best tight ends in football, and the best way to defend against them is to have strong safety play.
Previous Pick: No Change.
29BaltimoreCordy Glenn
G / Georgia
With Ben Grubbs gone and Matt Birk defying his age (for now) the Ravens are facing a crossroads with their interior line. Glenn is a heck of a prospect to grab here, though, which helps ease the pain.
Previous Pick: No Change.
30San FranciscoJanoris Jenkins
CB / North Alabama
Call me crazy, but I feel like Harbaugh might just be, umm, "confident" enough in his own abilities as a coach to overlook the character issues here and take the superior talent.
Previous Pick: CB Stephon Gilmore
31New EnglandShea McClellin
OLB / Boise State
How is that for dedication to improving your pass rush? Back-to-back picks are made with hopes of squashing Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore and Ryan Fitzpatrick to bits.
Previous Pick: WR Rueben Randle
32New York GiantsDoug Martin
RB / Boise State
The Giants would love to get more consistency from their running backs in an effort to repeat in the upcoming post-season. Martin represents a solid value at this point and they might just take another RB a little later on in an attempt to recreate the "Three-Headed Monster"
Previous Pick: RB David Wilson

Wahhhhhhh!!! You passed on Stephen Hill! :)

How does Dwayne Allen go before Coby Fleener!?

      • Adam Warwas April 5, 2012, 8:32 pm Reply

Call me a holdover I guess, I still think Allen is the top TE in this class.

    • Malte April 5, 2012, 2:51 pm Reply

After seing the second round I suddenly feel like this draft is LOADED with talent.. Guys in the likes of Mike Adams, Donta Hightower, Peter konz, devon still and Stephen Hill are still very good players to draft in 2nd round. – And if he works out like a pro and stays at the same weight Alshon Jeffery could be good as well

      • Adam Warwas April 5, 2012, 8:33 pm Reply

Yes, it is hard NOT to see another very exciting prospect (or five) being available to the Vikes at 35

  3. Dan March 23, 2012, 2:19 pm Reply

Time for the Niners to imrove matters on D? They have all 11 starters coming back and their biggest needs are at guard and reciever. Terrible!

    • Adam Warwas March 24, 2012, 3:03 pm Reply

Thanks for the comment Dan. I just feel like Adding Moss and Manningham in free agency could keep the Niners from drafting a first round WR, especially with Crabtree and Ginn returning. As far as guard goes, anybody available would be a big reach. I considered Fleener here, but felt Gilmore was the superior prospect. One can never have too many good CB’s.

Take it from us Vikings fans… having all of your starters return after a good year does not equal success… gotta find some more talent, always.

  4. DaveWilk March 23, 2012, 8:31 am Reply

As a Texans fan, I like the Nick Perry pick, but since they traded DeMeco Ryans, maybe an ILB would fit the bill a little better. Someone like Dont’a Hightower, maybe?

    • Adam Warwas March 24, 2012, 3:04 pm Reply

Thanks, Dave… I did consider Hightower at that spot… that trade certainly does give them the need.

  5. floridated March 23, 2012, 4:48 am Reply

The reason no one goes to Miami is Jeff Ireland he is a #1 A hole. Everyone in the world knows this is a QB driven league except for Ireland and rich guy (Ross) who bought the team knowing absolutely zero about football. Dolphin games are like going to a love fest/concert. Every entertainer who has the cash bought a piece of the team and now Ross can hang out with the beautiful people. For a smart guy he is a moron. #8 pick too early for one of the other QB’s. But they will take one in desperation. Offence is not bad the defense lost all those games in the 4th quarter which Miami had bouble digit leads.

    • Adam Warwas March 24, 2012, 3:06 pm Reply

Yeah… tough call, as 8 is WAY too early for Tannehill in my opinion. But I see them doing it. With Marshall gone, though, I’m not sure that it even matters. Fins have a lot of holes to fill… not to mention switching defensive schemes means lots of work this offseason.

Assuming the Vikings can’t trade down, I’d have to consider Michael Brockers or Morris Claiborne. Good teams don’t take LT’s high. Heck, I’d rather take a guard.

    Giants O-line:
5.160 David Diehl, LT (started year at guard, also played LT previous SB win)
    2.34 Chris Snee, G
    2.33 David Bass, C
    6.176 Kevin Boothe, G
    3.79 Kareem McKenzie, RT

If RG3 is there, I snap him up & listen for any crazy offers. If not, I draft like the Giants do: look hard at the d-line prospects.

    • Sam March 17, 2012, 2:51 am Reply

I’m sorry but I couldn’t disagree more, just because the giants had some pieces fall into place does not mean they epitomize a successful drafting strategy. LT is one of the most important positions in the game, its importance is magnified when considering they have a young gun under center who will need protection as he struggles to get through his NFL level reads. Also, there is no way RG3 will be available, a team does not stake the future of its franchise like the Redskins did to draft anything other than a franchise signal caller, which they believe RG3 to be. Michael Brockers had a poor combine and is overrated after very little production on one of the most talented defenses in SEC, mainly because of his massive size. All that to say, the vikings must draft Kalil or trade the pic, Blackmon is not simply of the talent level that Kalil is and Claiborne is very talented and would fill a need, but is not the type of franchise player Kalil represents. That being said, DL is a need just not as high as some (LT,CB, S, WR, OLB, MLB, DT, DE, OG)

    • Joel February 20, 2012, 7:57 am Reply

I’m with you Kalil is amazing and ponder needs it but I’d tak Morris because are secondy is herendous and winfield is washed up so take him and it might sound crazy but trade Jared allen for another early pick and more (justin blackmon or kalil) because by the time we get super bowl bound it will be 3-4 years making Jared Allen old we need to build on young talent

      • Joel February 29, 2012, 8:17 pm Reply

Ive been saying that forever but nobody will give a top 20 pk for him trade with the pats (aqquire 27th overall and a 3rd round) use the 27th on the S out of Alabama and are secondary will be solved and my name is Joel to

    • Smalls February 8, 2012, 9:50 pm Reply

That’s cuz good teams don’t draft that high, DUH! LT is arguably the 2nd most important position on offense and will be the Vikes pick come April 26th

      • Purple Faithful February 9, 2012, 12:34 am Reply

Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Terry Bradshaw, Troy Aikman/Steve Walsh,

Teams that have improved of late taking QB’s top 10 instead of LT’s – Atlanta/Matt Ryan. SD/ Rivers (trade, as u maybe know) Ben Roethlesberger, Joe Flacco, I mean, seriously, do i need to go on?

Teams that improved last year dramatically took Von Miller & Aldon Smith.

Teams that have taken LT’s lately – Jason Peters – Bust. Non-busts – Miami took Jake Long instead of Matt Ryan or about anyone else. Cleveland took Joe Thomas instead of Revis or Adrian Peterson. Both teams have sucked regardless of if their LT is on the field or not.

Other recent high picks include Washington’s fail Trent Williams.

heck, look at the LT that just got elected to the hall of fame. Willie Roaf. did he ever go to the postseason? Obviously, no rings. Recent QB adds? they have rings. Anything is better than using all your cap space/high picks on an offensive line.

        • Smalls February 9, 2012, 8:56 am Reply

Jason Peters was not a 1st round pick and in fact (as you maybe know or dont?) he was an undrafted TE by the Bills and converted to LT. Before Revis what did the Jets do? They took 2 OL in the 1st round, one of which was a LT. Later in the 1st after Ryan was drafted what did the Falcons do? They drafted Sam Baker, I mean seriously do I need to go on? Rivers = 0 rings, Ryan = 0 rings, Flacco = 0 rings, Stafford = 0 rings, Sanchez = 0 rings, A. Smith = 0 rings, Harrington = 0 rings, Carr = 0 rings, Leaf = 0 rings, Couch = 0 rings, Mcnabb = 0 rings, Pennington = 0 rings, Vick = 0 rings, Dante “Freakin” Culpepper = 0 RINGS! (Anybody? Anybody? Seriously do I need to go on?) The Vikings already drafted a QB and the next logical step is to draft his protection.

          • Joel February 29, 2012, 8:21 pm Reply

I agree with smalls but we need to address the secondary BAD pk clay born or trade ur pk to the cardinals so they take Kalil and we draft Dre Kipatricks (6’3!)

          • Purple Faithful February 9, 2012, 3:49 pm Reply

haha! my bad. I ment Jason Smith, the Ram. As for the Jets D’Brickashaw Ferguson, how many rings does he have? Has D’Brickashaw Ferguson proven to be a better LT than Matt Light who has 3 rings? Or David Diehl, who has 2? If he’s so great, why did the Giants pass rush destroy the Jets? Nick Mangold was drafted 29th, i have little problem taking offensive linemen in the second half of the first, but if those two gives the jets such a great offensive line (& they do, i agree) why do they not win more games? Why can’t they run the ball? I’m not sure the Jets wouldn’t have done better with a different selection. Maybe Ngati or vernon davis would have been better. Jets followed your formula of coupling a marginal talent QB with protection. even got him some talent at WR & have a great defense. all that & they have nothing.

So i think you are limited in top LT picks with rings anywhere in recent memory strickly to Orlando Pace. Of course, it was a totally different head coach & the QB they got was basically a bust & the lucked into a guy named warner, but there’s the one time I can think of where your system “worked”, as long as you are not too picky about the guys who thought it was a good idea losing their jobs.

Far better to just go the Jimmie Johnson route & draft QB’s until you know you have one. Then make sure you get a defensive line. Go look at where that offensive line was drafted. makes the giants look like fanatical offensive line selectors.

Big Ben and Joe Flacco went in the top ten?

          • Joel February 29, 2012, 8:21 pm Reply

            Lol

          • Purple Faithful February 9, 2012, 4:16 pm Reply

i actually don’t think Flacco’s all that good, & I thought he went at 12, but i guess he went 18, so it’s a bad example on my part as down at 18, i think you take anyone you think might become a great player for you. top 10 (11 in big ben’s case), i think you should try to identify a difference maker at QB, DE, DT, LB & the like. maybe a special wr or corner. I just don’t see the correlation on winning championships with taking LT’s super high. If Kalil makes the Vikings margianally better, we never get the difference maker we need is my thought. Lawerence Taylor, Reggie White, even Chris Doleman type players are usually pretty easy to spot and get drafted high. Hard to win a superbowl without 1 or 2 of those & an elite QB. I didn’t see enough from Ponder to make me believe he’s elite. We have Jared Allen, so that’s one elite. KWill used to be elite, Winfield I felt was elite for a while, but those guys will not be part of the solution o get the vikings a superbowl. If anything can get band-aided, it’s offensive line. If anything can’t, it’s QB/Defensive line. D’Brickshaw’s are selected, IMO, as insurance to protect what you have after you have enough playmakers. Seems like teams that don’t take the playmakers end up mediocre. Is that less offensive to you guys?

If we take a defensive playmaker, the games are closer. If the games are closer, the defense isn’t ignoring the threat of a run to rush the passer & ponder gets a better opportunity to do well with less defenses designed to stop the pass.

          • Purple Faithful February 9, 2012, 3:24 pm Reply

highest those teams got to draft in a while. felt it was close enough not to get nit-picked.

    • Purple Faithful February 7, 2012, 7:32 pm Reply

Jacksonville hired an offensive coach after years of a defensive coach. They are not taking a d-lineman, me thinks. Michael Floyd, maybe.

      • Adam Warwas February 8, 2012, 10:01 pm Reply

Historically, first year head coaches with offensive backgrounds pick defensive players early. Likewise, first year head coaches with defensive backgrounds take offensive players early.

Not saying its a rule, but I wouldn’t assume the Jags fail to fill a huge need on the D-Line just because their coach has an offensive background.

        • Purple Faithful February 9, 2012, 12:41 am Reply

ok, i never looked at the history. Thanks for the reply. I just assume they will take offense. maybe even reach for a near local guy like ashlon jeffries. the fan sites i’ve seen for them like him. gabbert needs something or to get jettisoned. (i’d vote jettisoned)

    • Purple Faithful February 7, 2012, 7:29 pm Reply

oh, Dallas reaches all the time on character & do you really think Courtney Upshaw will go that low? I’d love either Burfict or Barron with the Vikings second selection; maybe a trade up back into rd 1 with some of the booty in a trade-down.

  9. bjohnny February 3, 2012, 10:27 pm Reply

Adam, have you had enough time to jump into the trade possibilities that will surely shake things up? We all know this will happen and Brett took a stabb at it but I know your hands have been tied to a scoop shovel. So “if” you get the time I’d like your take also. It’s gonna be a fun draft, at least I hope so anyway.

    • Adam Warwas February 9, 2012, 1:47 am Reply

Mocks are a headache as it is Johnny. Throw trades into the mix and I’ll probably jump from one bottle of scotch a day to two (just kidding, by the way)… I applaude Brett ofr giving it a shot… but as you know this mock will change a dozen times between now and draft day. Trade scenarios would change a hundred more.

Not saying I won’t throw my hat into that ring, just saying not this early I won’t :)

Trading down would be an awful idea, unless it was only a few spots (say the Redskins or even the Browns, and we get their 22nd pick) We need the best position available. Trading down too far would hinder us from drafting the best player in the position we feel fit to fill with a high pick. so trading down a few spots could land us another 2nd rounder or late 1st rounder, that would be vitale to our possibilities. I still think Kalil would fall as far as 6 if we traded down there

You say the eagles can afford to go best player available but then u say they have greater needs than d tackle so which is it?

    • Purple Faithful February 7, 2012, 7:33 pm Reply

eagles need linebackers pretty bad, i think.

If the browns take Tannehill I’m finding a new team. Holmgren knows that he isn’t worth it at #22 and we need to build an O-line before we can find out if Colt is any good.

Avril ain’t going anywhere, pal. Dream on!

  15. CalVkg January 14, 2012, 10:30 pm Reply

kalil is a good, safe first pick, and we sure need O-lineman, so taking him is fine, but one guy won’t make us markedly better, so if we got a real good offer to trade down, take it, and fill more of the many holes we have. i just hope ponder pans out

  16. Vikesfan January 14, 2012, 9:23 am Reply

I still say if the Kalil is not there when the vikings pick, they should select justin blackmon..say what you want about claiborn but watching him he doesnt seem like a sure 100% dominant CB in the NFL could be another shawn springs…Justin Blackmon is a monster like Calvin Johnson, him matched up with percy and AP would get A LOTTT of open looks with his speed and great hands I am positive he will be a freak at the next level, could pick up an elite CB in FA like Asante samuel or Courtland Finnegan. We need a High Flying offense to keep up with the packers and the lions

  17. Dave January 12, 2012, 10:04 am Reply

Holmgren has never drafted a QB in the 1st round, why would he draft a project at 22 when the browns have so many needs?

    • Adam Warwas January 12, 2012, 6:45 pm Reply

Dave & John… Holmgren never having picked a quarterback in the first round has resulted in a number of mistakes, in my opinion. These are mistakes he is eventually going to realize. Will it be this year? Maybe. We will find out eventually.

    • John January 12, 2012, 4:45 pm Reply

He wouldn’t. People mocking Ryan Tannehill to the Browns @ 22 are don’t know the organization.

  18. Brett January 12, 2012, 9:20 am Reply

Love the mock Adam, one of the more practical one’s I’ve seen. As a Packer fan I wont touch on picking 32nd, as I have no problem with it, but I like your choice of Hosley. I think he’s a far superior player and value than a lot of the picks I’ve seen on other mocks, and the Pack could definitely use some help in the secondary. Honestly though, Williams and Shields are solid young corners, we’re just really hurting with Nick Collins, our pro-bowl FS, out for the year. Do you think Hosley could play some free safety next year if necessary, or down the road in a few years?

    • Adam Warwas January 12, 2012, 6:43 pm Reply

Thanks for stopping by Brett. Picking that late is tough to predict, but the Packers seemingly have so few real needs that they can afford to simply take the BPA in my opinion. Whether or not that is Hosley is debateable, but I would not expect him to play safety as a rookie. If drafted, I personally think it will be to play corner.

We’ve been infiltrated by a Packer fan posing as me!!!

Just kidding :) Thanks for stopping by VT.

Nice mock adam, id be happy with kalil. My dream outcome from free agency would be something like – a trade back to get Claiborne in the first, trade up for Barron in the late 1st, get a solid guard in the 2nd/3rd or someone like Jeff demps, then v jax and Jared gaither (if available) in free agency. Would solve a number of issues on d and make us very competitive next year.

My only query for your mock would be the eagles taking a de when upshaw is on the board. For a team that led the league in sacks and has great depth at de with babin, cole and their first rounder from the other year, I don’t think they could pass on upshaw giving the abysmal state of their LB’s

That’s a fair point on the Eagles, SB. I just have Still as the highest rated player at that point… and the Eagles have a pretty stacked roster (on paper) so I think they can afford to take BPA.

Your doing a great job ! Like the Vikes pick.
I,m with Fran on this one, Go Giants! The thoughts of the packers winning again, gives me the runs …

Thanks PC… and, by the way, I’ll send you some TUMs if that ends up happening :)

I think you can not go wrong with Kalil….But, I think once the combine has passed you will change your mind. I think the Vikings would be making a HUGE mistake not taking CB from LSU ‘Claiborne’
Vikes tied for last in league in take aways, and need to stop GB and Lions passing game…

    • sparky January 11, 2012, 1:40 pm Reply

There are SO many needs…But I think you go CB first then follow with OL, LB, then WR

      • Adam Warwas January 11, 2012, 9:47 pm Reply

Sparky, I see where you are coming from. Problem is, I can name about a dozen second day CB’s I would be happy with… but I can’t name any left tackles.

and yet, recent NFL history shows us it will be 2nd round LT’s with superbowl rings. You don’t need perfect at LT. Charlie Johnson gave up 9 sacks last year, his previous high in a year was 6. What will Kalil give up? 4? 5? 9? whatever number, it wouldn’t be the same improvement as an impact position. I know it’s hard to believe, but DC’s like getting paid millions to coach, so they will attack where the Viking’s offensive line is weakest. For instance, Phil Loadholdt gave up 9.5 sacks last year. As an example, Minnesota gave up 49 sacks last year & Miami (which passed less) gave up 52! as a matter of fact, St Louis has two first round OT’s & they gave up more sacks. It’s almost like an offensive line is only as good as it’s weakest link.

        • Nick January 12, 2012, 7:47 am Reply

Couldn’t agree more Adam. Many good CB’s and WR’s will be available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Unless Blackmon is a Calvin Johnson/Andre Johnson calibre receiver and Claibourne better than Peterson (who only excelled in returns), then we should protect Ponder first and solve other issues later.

      • CO Vike Fan January 11, 2012, 2:18 pm Reply

good o-line can keep that defense off the field. Should be getting defensive back help through Cook and Winfield returning, maybe shift Griffen to safety or hybrid role, and free agency.

  22. bjohnny January 11, 2012, 11:48 am Reply

What’s wrong with Charlie Johnson at LT? Oh yeah he sucks big time how could I forget. Good mock Adam it will be fun to see how it changes once FA begins. If it ever quits snowing up there maybe you could dive into trade scenarios?

The first thing I noticed is that you have Green Bay winning the Super Bowl.
Shame on you, the Giants will knock them off this weekend.

      Just going by record, Fran.

    • CO Vike Fan January 11, 2012, 2:14 pm Reply

I noticed that too, at least you think Adam could play along and let us all feel good that Packers will get beat

  24. Matt January 11, 2012, 11:10 am Reply

Couldn’t disagree more with your pick for the LIONS. There is no way they take DE with OL and secondary being there biggest concern, nor will they pass on Peter Kontz or Cordy Glenn or any number of DB’s.

    • Adam Warwas January 11, 2012, 9:45 pm Reply

I hear you. But I think the Lions try and take care of the O-Line and DB in free agency, leaving Avril’s replacement to be drafted. Of course, though, it seems contrary at the moment. Thanks for the comment!

the no comment on vikings pick is because it’s so obvious? :p

    • Adam Warwas January 11, 2012, 10:03 am Reply

Sorry Malte, not sure what happened there. It is fixed now.

      • Malte January 11, 2012, 10:56 am Reply

        No problem :)
Couldn’t agree more with the vikings pick. If Kalil is there I say we should take him, then lets see how the deck falls in the 2nd round
