this is pretty bad, whether ya blame the coaches or the players...

Pelissero: Dysfunction on defense has Vikings ripe for major changes

http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Pelissero_Dysfunction_on_defense_has_Vikings_ripe_for_major_changes121511

"...According to two sources, a group of defensive backs raised concerns about Pagac's play-calling -- specifically, the timing and frequency of blitzes and man-coverage calls -- within the first month of the season.

At times, some players simply refused to play the defenses called, yelling out their own coverages as they broke the huddle. Tension mounted among players who felt the issues weren't run up the flagpole and coaches who disagreed on how to proceed with an increasingly depleted group...."

Not good at all Cal. I dont think Denzel has any choice than to fire a bunch of defensive coachs at the end of the year. Can't have a mutiny on his hands

Yea, I gotta say, when your players are being defiant and included in the bunch are Erin Henderson, Tyrell Johnson, Husain Abdullah, Asher Allen, Remi Ayodele, and so on... maybe they should focus on THEIR jobs before second guessing the coaches.

Of course, if this "mutiny" were led by Randy Moss then it wouldn't be the coach's fault at all, right?

Right Adam, hehe. Moss deserved to be canned but Childo didnt handle it the right way.

Yeah Cal, 1 time would be understandable but many times? I'm kinda surprised a guy like JA didnt get involved and kick some ass, coaches and players. Can't wait to get Coachs perspective on this.

Well, johnny, my first thought is that we are back to "sources", so there is only a slight chance that we have a completely accurate picture here. But let's say its all fundamentally true...

Coaches can be wrong, no question about it. A team has about 20 defensive players, and they are not all going to agree on calls and strategies, so while it is not uncommon for a player to question what it being called, he has NO rationale to do anything but what is called. Any player is COMPLETELY wrong if he chooses to abandon a call without authority to do so. Doing that is only going to make a difficult situation a much larger mess. If these rogue calls are taking place, that would explain some of what we have seen. To start with the depleted talent we have, and then combine it with players going in more than one direction is a combination that makes me wonder how we have even done as well as we have. Bottom line, though, is that we do what the guy paid to make the decisions says to do. There can be no wavering from that premise.

These are the types of things that happen when a team is losing, and it takes real maturity to handle a season like this. Some of these guys are anything but mature, we know that, so players start to become coaches, and all hell breaks loose. (I AM surprised that a Jared Allen or a Chad Greenway has taken some of these clowns aside and put an end to it.) Leslie has a lot of sorting out to do over the next few months, that's for sure. But there can be no room for players who are a part of what is going on here, if what we read here is true, and some of these guys are digging themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of, either in Minnesota or anywhere else. if you want to keep your job, this is not the way to do it.

Coach, I think that's the way it has to be. It's like the boss telling the employee to do something, if he doesn't follow the boss's rules he gets fired. I can't imagine not doing what the coach told me to do and expect to stay in the game? Our secondary just plain sucks and for them to disobey what the coach tells them is just proof we need some new guys. Believe me I know all about not agreeing with what the coach says but like Cal says you got to have discipline but like you said we are relying on "sources" here.

I have to be honest, Coach, I disagree with you a bit on this one. I'll try and explain further in an upcoming blog post.
