Yeah, I guess since there was no change in possession yet (even though he had already fumbled) it would have been our ball and half the distance to the goal - 1st down.

Actually, I read somewhere that since they ended up recovering the fumble, the 15 yards would just be tacked on at the end. Lions ball. End of game... I don't know, seems like there's some confusion on this one.

Adam, clear it up for us!

Edit: Man... I've also read this! "Typical missed call by the zebras… it is a defensive penalty since no one had established possession of the fumble. Half the distance to the goal line and extend the game by one play since the game cannot end on a defensive penalty." That sounds like it's right, though.

The people who will really be hurt by that missed facemask call will be the team that comes up one game short if the Lions make it to a wild card spot. There is a very good chance that missed call could cost some team a playoff spot, and if I were Chicago or Atlanta or New York I would be very upset about that call.

There is a lot to dislike about today's game, but there are also a couple things to like...

1. If there is any doubt that Leslie Frazier has this team won over, today took care of that. Any 2-10 team missing two of their best players that goes down 28-7 is likely to mail in the rest of the game. This team did not do that. They still believe in themselves, and that is a credit to the coaching staff.

2. The offense is getting better each week. I think Musgrave is using guys like Harvin, Aromashadu, Gerhart, and today Webb, in better ways every week. Putting up 32 against Denver, and now 28 against Detroit on the road, without AP, should tell us that this is an improving offense. Obviously the turnovers were a killer, but we darned near won a game despite a negative 5 TO ratio.

3. The defense held the Lions to 20 points on the road. That's not too bad, although I think it had as much to do with the Lions errors as it did the Vikes play. Still, encouraging with that group we have in the backfield.

Other things...
Lorenzo Booker is on the edge of the cliff with this team.
When Gerhart runs in straight ahead man block plays, he is a bull, and the line blocks those plays much better.
EJ is not having a good year. Jared is.
K Williams showed up today.
Jim Schwartz is an obnoxious bag of wind. Hank Stram II.
Percy is the Vikings MVP this year.
Now we have guys in our D-backfield that I didn't remember we have. Page? I thought Alan was our last one of those.
We will now see what Christian Ponder is made of.

Great summary Coach, as usual. After looking around some other blogs I cant believe the number of people calling for Ponder and Fraziers heads, wow! I guess the learning process shouldn't take so long huh? It was a tough loss and I kinda understand but geez let's let this thing play out and see what happens.

1st Downs-29 13, 3rd down efficiency - 8-14 8-16, Total Yards -425 280
All in favor of the Vikes.
Turnovers- 6 0
That one and the scoreboard were not.
They battled, but couldn't overcome the Refs. That was a terrible non call that I think cost us the game.
The turnovers hurt, but we battled back, only to have it come down to that.
Bullshit!

Okay, I think Webb did well. He is what he is, he does some things nobody else can do. That's worth thinking about.
I'm not sayin' Ponder isn't our #1 QB....just sayin'.
At the end of the day, who gives you the better chance to win?
I say lets give them both the opportunity. But that's me. I'm sure Freds will think different.

yeah coach, straight ahead man block plays, those are for us. don't hafta move too much, just be a big stump and drive with your mass
i was enjoying your post until i saw Hank Stram. i frowned and my eyebrows furrowed :x
the best thing was that we didn't give up, great sign for the future, and for les

cc, you and i are both webb fans, and i liked what he did today. dude almost won the game for us, but it wasn't the refs, it was mostly ponder. TOs killed us. detroit is not a good team. we should've won this game and we had SIX TOs to none

we still might get a division win this year, but i actually hope not

I don't care one bit for that draft pick. I was screaming at the refs, webb. Simply at everybody when we lost.. I want to WIN!

Lets hope ponder plays better in the future cause this offense is driving up and down the field, but TO is killing us

We have to find ways to WIN games in the future, and I think we will. I see 2 more wins this season - Against redskind and against bears. (NO way we win against New Orleans, although that would be sweeeeet!)
