Another Warwas Has Joined Us

August 9, 2012, by Adam Warwas 29 comments

Hello, everyone.

If you haven’t noticed, I have been uncharacteristically absent this week, despite all of the big news coming out of training camp.

It isn’t that training camp isn’t important, but sometimes life things just simply take priority over position battles.

Today, that priority comes in the form of a new little baby girl!

At 9:15 a.m. (Alaska Time) today, Harbor Grace Warwas joined us and is happy and healthy, as is Mrs. Warwas.

Nearly two years ago our son, Gates, was born and I declared he would be the solution to the Vikings woes at the safety position.  We have about 20 more years before that comes to fruition, but now I am trying to figure out how Harbor will fit into the Vikings organization.

I’m thinking that she will end up as the NFL’s first female head coach… after Leslie Frazier retires with 33 consecutive Super Bowl titles under his belt, of course.

Bad Things Come In Threes, But So Do Silver Linings

July 9, 2012, by Adam Warwas 24 comments

As you may have read at the onset of the weekend, I packed up the family and headed to the famous Tangle Lakes for a weekend fishing trip with long-time Vikings Territory (and Vikings Gab) reader Fran the Man.

So, after getting approval to take off of work a few hours early on Friday, I headed to the house to get the family ready to go.  These days, the family consists of Mrs. Warwas who is about a month away from having our second child and Gates, my almost-two-year-old son.  Additionally, my two brother-in-laws (ages 8 & 13) are staying with us this summer, wanting to get their fill of a true Alaskan adventure.

We were all looking forward to a peaceful fishing trip up north and I was also looking forward to yet another weekend of uneventful Vikings news.  I’m guessing you can tell from this lead in that things didn’t go quite as planned, but go ahead and continue reading if you are interested in the full story from this weekend (and some pictures, too).  This is more of a journal entry than a football post… but that’s okay, I make the rules around here!

Happy 4th, Leslie Frazier Style

July 4, 2012, by Adam Warwas 3 comments

Independence Day.

Today is a day to remember those that fought for our freedom.  Those that later fought (and are currently fighting) to protect it.  It is a day to remember everything and everyone that makes this country the greatest on Earth (no offense, Denmark).  It is a time to spend with friends and family, enjoying the summer with a fishing pole in one hand and a brat in the other.

Both Brett and I extend a “Happy Fourth of July” to all of our readers and want to remind everyone to celebrate safely.

The holiday also makes for a perfect reason to mention that Leslie Frazier is currently representing the NFL on a USO tour in the Persian Gulf.  He is the only current head coach to make the trip to visit our overseas troops, joined by former coaches Bill Cowher and Eric Mangini.

Frazier had an opportunity to take advantage of some rare downtime between minicamp and training camp and rest and relax, but instead decided to do what he described as a “small thing” in an effort to lift the spirits of the service men and women stationed away from home.

“It just puts in perspective that there’s nothing you should ever complain about,” Frazier said.

Indeed, sir.  Indeed.

We Need Your Help!

June 19, 2012, by Adam Warwas 19 comments

Okay ladies and gents, Brett and I have been talking about how to make this site better (as we always do) and we decided to reach out and see if any of you were interested in helping out.

Specifically, we are hoping to get some help with the forums.  Fran’s Forums are all set up and working well, but the conversation isn’t super regular these days.  So, what we are thinking is to see if anyone had any interest in being a “Moderator” for Fran’s Forums.  The duties would include:

-          Approving new users

-          Keeping scumbag spammers away

-          Posting content to keep things active

Brett and I both fear that we are not able to keep you as up-to-date as we want to and were thinking the forums are a great place for you all to keep each other informed on a daily basis, especially when things are slow on the blog.

You don’t need to be super “tech savvy” to be a good Mod and Brett will help guide you through what needs to be done.

If you have any interest in joining the team, then please visit our “contact us” page and let us know!

Vikings Territory Now On Android

June 17, 2012, by Brett Anderson 7 comments

Vikings Territory Android App Screenshots

As you know, we are always striving here at Vikings Territory to bring all of you the best spot on the internet for your Vikings news. Well, we took it a step further today with the addition of our very own mobile app.

The app currently is only being offered on Android phones and, of course, it is free. We may make our way into the Apple store eventually but they require a hefty payment and have an array of hoops to jump through.

If you would like to download the app, just go to the app store (Google Play) on your Android phone and search for “Vikings Territory“. Or, you could visit the following link on your phone and download it from there.

You will then be able to access the most recent Vikings Territory posts from your phone without having to visit the website. (The most recent posts/tweets from the VT Facebook and Twitter accounts are there as well.)

So, if you are an Android user, check out the app and let us know what you think.

Enjoy!

Welcome To Draft Day!

April 26, 2012, by Adam Warwas 3 comments

Well, it is finally here!

Every football fan’s personal, weird version of Christmas morning arrives tonight and we are all anxious to see the Vikings unwrap that shiny new gift… or perhaps go the Chinese Auction route and trade around until they get the gift they like.

Anyways, we are here for you all day.

The blog will be updated as quickly and as often as we can kick out posts.  The Live Chat will begin about an hour before the Colts are officially on the clock.  Our Big Board and Trade Value Charts are posted.  Everything can be accessed by using the menu at the top of the screen.

We know you are looking forward to the first round of the Draft tonight, and we want you to know that we are just as excited and glad you chose to hang out with us during it.

How The Draft Gets Better

April 18, 2012, by Adam Warwas 28 comments

It is no secret… We fans love us some NFL Draft.

We love it so much that some of us take time off from our jobs and family to watch.  We love it so much that we want to gather into a virtual chat room to discuss with others.  We love it so much that we spend roughly 11 months and 30 days discussing the next one.  We love it so much that we go to extensive lengths to try (always unsuccessfully) to predict the outcome.

Here at VT, we love the NFL Draft so much that we put a ridiculous number of hours into making this your one stop shop for everything related to the event.

I love the Draft (as if you couldn’t tell) but if this report from PFT comes to fruition, I will love the Draft even more than I already do.

The NFL Network and ESPN, who both broadcast the live event, are supposedly in discussions with the league as to how they can eliminate the anticlimactic spoilers that come in the form of some announcer telling us who the pick will be prior to the official announcement or in the form of a cameraman capturing a prospect receiving a phone call five minutes before the pick is announced.

I have always hated the hell out of that trend, trying to be the first to tell us who is being drafted, as it just plain and simply isn’t as fun as the suspenseful walk to the podium and listening for that name you want to hear.

The Draft is always compared to Christmas amongst football fans.  Ever since this pre-announcement spoiler thing came about, it was still like Christmas… except Santa wrapped all the presents in see-through plastic wrap.

I really hope that the networks are able to come to an agreement for the sake of an improved viewer experience.

If they do, that is just one more reason to love the Draft and everything that comes with it.
