Laquon Treadwell won’t officially be a member of the Minnesota Vikings until the ink on his rookie contract dries, but he is in Minnesota and just wrapped up his first press conference at Winter Park. The 20-year-old, who will wear No. 11 for the Vikings, spent about 10 minutes at the podium fielding questions from the media on everything from his college career to his training with Cris Carter.

While Treadwell explained his passion for football, he also spent a chunk of the session speaking about his three-year-old daughter, Madison. “Going away to school, it was my goal to get to this level,” he said.  “I knew I needed to take care of my daughter.” He also shared that his family helped him fight through a difficult period of his life in 2014, when he fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle.

The Ole Miss receiver went on to make a full recovery and set multiple records as a Rebel in 2015. Once he declared for the draft, Treadwell began training with former Vikings wide receiver and Hall of Famer Cris Carter. “It was great, I actually enjoyed it,” he said. “[Cris Carter] had so much knowledge on the game. I didn’t know it was possible the things he taught me.”

After the Vikings made the selection, Carter tweeted that fans would be happy with Treadwell, and he joins Michael Irvin as one of many public supporters of Minnesota’s new receiver. And the best advice Treadwell received from the Vikings great? “Never be late.”

Now that Treadwell has settled in and met the staff and the front office, he’s confident the Vikings can succeed right now. “I just think we can do a lot of great things with any great running back, ” he said when asked about the opportunity to play with Adrian Peterson. “You can get everyone else involved.”

The best quote of the day may have come from Treadwell’s new quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater. They met earlier today, and Treadwell shared Bridgewater’s goal for the team in 2016:
