Best of the Rest: Who Could the Vikings Select on Day Two of the Draft?

So now that the Minnesota Vikings have filled a need at wide receiver with Laquon Treadwell, what other prospects will catch their eye on day two of the NFL Draft? Heading into the draft’s second day, the Vikings currently hold the 23rd picks in both the second and third rounds.
Then again, anything can happen when Rick Spielman is your team’s general manager.
Offense
Cody Whitehair, OG – Kansas State
Listed as a guard, Whitehair has experience at playing both the guard and tackle positions on the offensive line during his four seasons at Kansas State. His versatility could be something that Minnesota could be looking to add on day number two of the draft.
Hunter Henry, TE – Arkansas
The 2016 most outstanding tight end in all of college football could still be available when it’s the Vikings turn to make a selection on the draft’s second day. With Rhett Ellison’s health in question heading into next season, adding another tight end to the roster might not be that bad of an idea for Minnesota.
Derick Henry, RB – Alabama
With three running backs on their roster already, the Vikings do not need to select a running back in the early part off the draft right? But when Adrian Peterson is not getting any younger, adding a freight train like Henry to pair with the speed of a Jerick McKinnon could end up becoming a lethal combination for Minnesota in the near future.
Defense
Myles Jack, LB – UCLA
In one of the biggest surprises of the draft’s first night, Jack still remains undrafted. The reports on his surgically repaired knee have seemed to scare teams away from taking a chance on him. However, the risk in taking a player like Jack could come with a very high reward if the Vikings are able to somehow select him.
Mackensie Alexander, CB – Clemson
With expiring contracts for both Terence Newman and Captain Mannerlyn after 2016, it would not come as a shocker if Minnesota drafted a cornerback in the second or third round. Everyone knows how Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer loves defensive backs and Alexander is a player he could easily fall in love with if he has not already.
Andrew Billings, DT – Baylor
Stopping the run is one area in which Minnesota’s defense could use some improvement heading into the 2016 season. By adding a big guy like Billings to clog up the open running lanes in the middle of the defense, the Vikings rush defense could see a vast improvement next year.
