Vikings Sign Free Agent Veteran Pass Rusher

Quarterback Mike Kafka was signed by the Vikings after apparently impressing at the first annual veteran combine. He isn’t the only veteran that found work in Minnesota after working out in front of Rick Spielman, however.

Defensive end Caesar Rayford was also signed and will compete for a spot near the bottom of the Vikings depth chart. The agreement was announced by Rayford’s agent on Twitter.

Rayford spent 2014 playing arena football and in the CFL. He last played in the NFL in 2013 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys where he played in his only NFL games. In seven games with the Cowboys he is credited with being in on five tackles.

Rayford was actually acquired by Dallas via a trade with the Indianapolis Colts prior to the 2013 season. The Colts signed him after he spent a number of season in the CFL and Arena League. Rayford was originally drafted by the B.C. Lions in 2009.

Listed at 6′ 7″ and 285 pounds one can certainly see why he might be worth a very small investment as a flier. At age 29, however, this certainly doesn’t appear to be a “accumulate young talent and see who blossoms” type of signing.
