Kevin Williams Wants To Retire A Viking

I had always hoped that Kevin Williams would get a Super Bowl ring.

Of course, I envisioned that ring being a result of him winning the Big One as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.  That never happened, but this coming Sunday will be Williams’ best chance ever at being an NFL champion, and it is certainly giving Vikings fans a reason to cheer for the Seattle Seahawks.

Williams will always be a big part of Vikings history (remember how he was drafted?) and the Vikings will always be a big part of his life. Going away for a season, even a Super Bowl winning season, still wouldn’t be enough to make Williams consider himself anything other than a career Viking.

He was asked about this in a recent phone interview, as relayed by the Pioneer Press.

[pull_quote_center]Who else would I retire for? I played 11 years with the Vikings. That would be great. I would hope that would be the goal for the Vikings and for me.[/pull_quote_center]

In the same interview, Williams said he has not yet considered whether or not the outcome of the Super Bowl will play into any possible retirement decisions.  He has played just under half of Seattle’s defensive snaps this season and he thinks this might allow him to play the game longer than expected.

[pull_quote_center]I can play this game for a long time with the snaps I got this year.[/pull_quote_center]

I honestly haven’t decided who I want to win the Super Bowl, or maybe it is that I don’t particularly care. I do know, however, that if the Seahawks win this one I will be very happy for Williams who will go down in history as one of the top defensive tackles to ever wear a horn on his helmet.
