Vikings Add Free Agent Cornerback Josh Thomas

Coming off today’s news that second year cornerback Jabari Price would be suspended for the first two games of the season, the Vikings added free agent cornerback Josh Thomas.

Thomas is entering his 5th year after being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 5th round of the 2011 draft. Since then, he’s suited up for Carolina, Seattle, New York Jets and Detroit.

Thomas’ most notable stats come from his stint as a starter in Carolina at the tail end of 2012. Starting the final four games of that season, Thomas recorded 24 tackles and 7 defended passes. He rejoined the Panthers and current Viking Captain Munnerlyn in 2013 and recorded 28 tackles and 1 interception over the course of 13 games.

A relative journey man thus far, it is a bit difficult to see Thomas making an immediate impact on the team. However, with cornerback depth somewhat of question mark due to Price’s suspension and Josh Robinson’s injury, Thomas will give the Vikings another option at the position.

Vikings Territory will be represented well at training camp and will take a long look at cornerback as camp progresses. I know I’ll be keeping an eye on Thomas as the position battle heats up.

Camp can’t come soon enough!
