Last season, Minnesota State (Mankato) quarterback Jon Wolf was the Northern Sun conference offensive Player of the Year. In addition, Wolf was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, an honor given to the top Division II player.

This weekend, Wolf will get a chance to earn an NFL free agent contract when he joins other rookie hopefuls at the Vikings mini camp.

Wolf had an impressive career with the Mavericks, and he hopes to showcase his talents to Vikings staff and coaches. In 2013, the 6’4″, 200-lb QB completed 119 of 190 passes for 2,054 yards and 17 touchdowns with just one interception. In addition, Wolf led the Mavericks in rushing with 1,150 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Wolf was the Northern Sun conference offensive POY this past season and was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, which goes to the top player in Division II. Besides throwing for 17 TDs against one pick, Wolf also led Minnesota State in rushing yards.

The interesting part?

The Vikings are not looking at Wolf as a QB option but rather as a wide receiver, according to the Mankato Free Press. Wolf has proven to be a well-rounded athlete, and his ability to play other positions on the field will certainly be an asset.

If Wolf makes the Vikings roster, he will be joining former Minnesota State teammate Adam Thielen, who made the practice squad last season after participating in the rookie camp.

GET TO KNOW JON WOLF

Q: How long have you been playing football?

Wolf: 14 years — I started playing when I was 8 years old so about 14 years

Q: Have you always played the position that you do now?

Wolf: No — I’ve played almost every skilled position throughout my career

Q: What does it mean to you to be invited to the Vikings rookie training camp?

Wolf: It means I was overlooked by all 32 teams seven times in the draft and in free agency.  [I’m going] into camp with a chip on my shoulder, but I’m excited.

Q: What number do you wear and why?

Wolf: [I wear number] 11.  It doesn’t have a significance, I just like the number.

5. If you could have 1 day to train with any current NFL player, who would that be? Why?

Wolf: Adrian Peterson. He’s one of the best players of all time and is portrayed by the media to have one of the best work ethics.  I want to train with the best.
