Vikings To Release McNabb Today

According to Adam Schefter over at ESPN, the Minnesota Vikings plan on releasing quarterback Donovan McNabb sometime today.

McNabb was brought in at the beginning of the season to serve as a temporary solution to the Vikings [everlasting] need at quarterback. After going 1-5, McNabb was benched and replaced by the rookie quarterback Christian Ponder.

McNabb’s release leaves a glaring hole in the Vikings’ depth chart with only quarterback Joe Webb behind Ponder. Especially with Frazier’s recent announcement to have Webb more involved in the receiving game, the Vikings will probably look to fill McNabb’s void immediately.

We should have more information on why he was released when today’s practice concludes and coach Leslie Frazier speaks with the media.
